Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
Zayin
49 Remember the word to Your servant,
[a]In which You have made me hope.
50 This is my (A)comfort in my misery,
That Your word has [b]revived me.
51 The arrogant (B)utterly deride me,
Yet I do not (C)turn aside from Your Law.
52 I have (D)remembered Your judgments from [c]of old, Lord,
And comfort myself.
53 Burning (E)indignation has seized me because of the wicked,
Who (F)abandon Your Law.
54 Your statutes are my songs
In the house of my (G)pilgrimage.
55 Lord, I (H)remember Your name (I)in the night,
And keep Your Law.
56 This has become mine,
[d]That I (J)comply with Your precepts.
Jeremiah Prays and God Explains
16 “After giving the deed of purchase to Baruch the son of Neriah, I (A)prayed to the Lord, saying, 17 ‘(B)Oh, Lord [a]God! Behold, You Yourself have (C)made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! (D)Nothing is too difficult for You, 18 who (E)shows mercy to thousands, but (F)repays the wrongdoing of fathers into the laps of their children after them, (G)great and (H)mighty God. The (I)Lord of armies is His name; 19 (J)great in counsel and mighty in deed, whose (K)eyes are open to all the ways of the sons of mankind, (L)giving to everyone according to his ways and according to the fruit of his deeds; 20 who has (M)accomplished signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, and even to this day both in Israel and among mankind; and You have (N)made a name for Yourself, as at this day. 21 You (O)brought Your people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs and with wonders, and with a strong hand and an outstretched arm, and with great terror; 22 and You gave them this land, which You (P)swore to their forefathers to give them, a land flowing with milk and honey. 23 They (Q)came in and took possession of it, but they (R)did not obey Your voice or (S)walk in Your Law; they did not do [b]anything that You commanded them to do; therefore You have made (T)all this disaster happen to them. 24 Behold, the (U)assault ramps have reached the city to take it; and the city has been (V)handed over to the Chaldeans who fight against it, because of the (W)sword, the famine, and the plague; and what You have spoken has (X)come to pass; and behold, You see it. 25 Yet You have said to me, Lord [c]God, “Buy for yourself the field with money and call in witnesses”—although the city has been handed over to the Chaldeans.’”
26 Then the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying, 27 “Behold, I am the Lord, the (Y)God of all flesh; is anything (Z)too difficult for Me?” 28 Therefore this is what the Lord says: “Behold, I am going to (AA)hand this city over to the Chaldeans and to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he will take it. 29 And the Chaldeans who are fighting against this city will enter and (AB)set this city on fire and burn it, with the (AC)houses where people have offered incense to Baal on their roofs and poured out drink offerings to other gods, to provoke Me to anger. 30 For the sons of Israel and the sons of Judah have been doing only (AD)evil in My sight since their youth; for the sons of Israel have been only (AE)provoking Me to anger by the work of their hands,” declares the Lord. 31 “Indeed this city has been to Me a (AF)provocation of My anger and My wrath since the day that they built it, even to this day, so that it should be (AG)removed from My sight, 32 because of all the evil of the sons of Israel and the sons of Judah which they have done to provoke Me to anger—they, their (AH)kings, their leaders, their priests, their prophets, the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem. 33 They have turned their back to Me and not their face; though I taught them, (AI)teaching again and again, they would not listen to accept discipline. 34 But they (AJ)put their detestable things in the house which is called by My name, to defile it. 35 They built the (AK)high places of Baal that are in the Valley of Ben-hinnom to make their sons and their daughters pass through the fire to (AL)Molech, which I had not commanded them, nor had it [d]entered My mind that they should do this abomination, to mislead Judah to sin.
Message to Laodicea
14 “To the angel of the church in (A)Laodicea write:
(B)The Amen, (C)the faithful and true Witness, (D)the [a]Origin of the creation of God, says this:
15 ‘(E)I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; (F)I wish that you were cold or hot. 16 So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will vomit you out of My mouth. 17 Because you say, “(G)I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have no need of anything,” and you do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked, 18 I advise you to (H)buy from Me (I)gold refined by fire so that you may become rich, and (J)white garments so that you may clothe yourself and (K)the shame of your nakedness will not be revealed; and eye salve to apply to your eyes so that you may see. 19 (L)Those whom I love, I rebuke and discipline; therefore be zealous and (M)repent. 20 Behold, I stand (N)at the door and (O)knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, (P)I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me. 21 (Q)The one who overcomes, I will grant to him (R)to sit with Me on My throne, as (S)I also overcame and sat with My Father on His throne. 22 (T)The one who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’”
