¹ ¶ In thee, O LORD, have I waited; let me not be forever put to shame.

² Deliver me in thy righteousness and cause me to escape; incline thine ear unto me and save me.

³ Be thou my strong habitation unto which I may continually resort; thou hast given a commandment that I should be saved because thou art my rock and my fortress.

⁴ Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, out of the hand of the perverse and violent man.

⁵ For thou art my hope, O Lord GOD; thou art my security from my youth.

⁶ By thee have I been sustained from the womb; thou art he that took me out of my mother’s bowels; my praise has been continually of thee.

²⁰ To what purpose does this incense come to me from Sheba and the sweet cane from a far country? Your burnt offerings are not according to my will, nor are your sacrifices sweet unto me.

²¹ Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will lay stumblingblocks before this people, and the fathers and the sons together shall fall upon them; the neighbour and his friend shall perish.

²² Thus hath the LORD said, Behold, a people come from the land of the north wind, and a great nation shall be raised from the sides of the earth.

²³ They shall lay hold on bow and spear; they are cruel, and they shall have no mercy; their voice shall roar like the sea; and they shall ride upon horses set in array as men for war against thee, O daughter of Zion.

²⁴ We have heard the fame thereof; our hands wax feeble; anguish has taken hold of us, and pain as of a woman in travail.

²⁵ Do not go forth into the field, nor walk by the way; for the sword of the enemy and fear is on every side.

²⁶ O daughter of my people, gird thee with sackcloth and wallow thyself in ashes; make thee mourning, as for an only son, most bitter lamentation; for the destroyer shall suddenly come upon us.

²⁷ I have set thee for a tower and a fortress among my people; thou shalt know and examine their way.

²⁸ They are all rebellious princes; they walk with deception: they are brass and iron; they are all corrupters.

²⁹ The bellows are burned; the lead is consumed of the fire; the founder melts in vain; for the wicked are not plucked away.

³⁰ Reprobate silver shall men call them because the LORD has rejected them.

17 ¶ Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where the synagogue of the Jews was.

² And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,

³ declaring openly and proposing that it behooved the Christ to have suffered and risen again from the dead and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is the Christ.

⁴ And some of them believed and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the noble women not a few.

⁵ But the disobedient Jews, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort and gathered a company and set all the city on an uproar and assaulted the house of Jason and sought to bring them out to the people.

⁶ And when they did not find them, they brought Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down have come here also,

⁷ whom Jason has received, and these all do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus.

⁸ And they troubled the people and the rulers of the city when they heard these things.

⁹ And when they had taken security of Jason and of the others, they let them go.
