Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
8 You removed a (A)vine from Egypt;
You (B)drove out the [a]nations and (C)planted it.
9 You (D)cleared the ground before it,
And it (E)took deep root and filled the land.
10 The mountains were covered with its shadow,
And [b]the cedars of God with its (F)branches.
11 It was sending out its branches (G)to the sea
And its shoots to the Euphrates River.
12 Why have You (H)broken down its [c]hedges,
So that all who pass that way pick its fruit?
13 A boar from the forest (I)eats it away,
And whatever moves in the field feeds on it.
14 God of armies, do (J)turn back;
(K)Look down from heaven and see, and take care of this vine,
15 The [d](L)shoot which Your right hand has planted,
And of the [e]son whom You have [f]strengthened for Yourself.
16 It is (M)burned with fire, it is cut down;
They perish from the (N)rebuke of Your face.
17 Let (O)Your hand be upon the man of Your right hand,
Upon the son of man whom You (P)made strong for Yourself.
18 Then we will not (Q)turn back from You;
(R)Revive us, and we will call upon Your name.
19 Lord God of armies, (S)restore us;
Make Your face shine upon us, [g]and we will be saved.
18 On that day the Lord will take away the beauty of their anklets, headbands, (A)crescent ornaments, 19 dangling earrings, bracelets, veils, 20 (B)headdresses, ankle chains, sashes, perfume boxes, amulets, 21 [a]finger rings, (C)nose rings, 22 festive robes, outer garments, shawls, purses, 23 papyrus garments, undergarments, headbands, and veils.
24 Now it will come about that instead of (D)balsam oil there will be a stench;
Instead of a belt, a rope;
Instead of (E)well-set hair, a (F)plucked-out scalp;
Instead of fine clothes, a (G)robe of sackcloth;
And branding instead of beauty.
25 Your men will (H)fall by the sword
And your [b]mighty ones in battle.
26 And her [c](I)gates will lament and mourn,
And she will (J)sit deserted on the ground.
A Remnant Prepared
4 For seven women will take hold of (K)one man on that day, saying, “We will eat our own bread and wear our own clothes, only let us be called by your name; (L)take away our disgrace!”
2 On that day the (M)Branch of the Lord will be beautiful and glorious, and the (N)fruit of the earth will be the pride and the beauty of the (O)survivors of Israel. 3 And it will come about that the one who is (P)left in Zion and remains behind in Jerusalem will be called (Q)holy—everyone who is (R)recorded for life in Jerusalem. 4 When the Lord has washed away the filth of the (S)daughters of Zion and [d]purged the (T)bloodshed of Jerusalem from her midst, by the (U)spirit of judgment and the (V)spirit of [e]burning, 5 then the Lord will create over the entire area of Mount Zion and over her assemblies (W)a cloud by day, and smoke, and the brightness of a flaming fire by night; for over all the (X)glory will be a canopy. 6 And there will be a (Y)shelter to give shade from the heat by day, and refuge and [f]protection from the storm and the rain.
Perilous Times
15 “Therefore when you see the (A)abomination of desolation which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in (B)the holy place—[a](C)let the [b]reader understand— 16 then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains. 17 [c]Whoever is on (D)the [d]housetop must not go down to get things out of his house. 18 And [e]whoever is in the field must not turn back to get his cloak. 19 But (E)woe to those women who are pregnant, and to those who are nursing babies in those days! 20 Moreover, pray that [f]when you flee, it will not be in the winter, or on a Sabbath. 21 For then there will be a (F)great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will again. 22 And if those days had not been cut short, no [g]life would have been saved; but for (G)the sake of the [h]elect those days will be cut short. 23 (H)Then if anyone says to you, ‘Behold, here is the [i]Christ,’ or ‘He is over here,’ do not believe him. 24 For false christs and (I)false prophets will arise and will provide great [j](J)signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even (K)the [k]elect. 25 Behold, I have told you in advance. 26 So if they say to you, ‘Behold, He is in the wilderness,’ do not go out; or, ‘Behold, He is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe them. 27 (L)For just as the lightning comes from the east and flashes as far as the west, so will the (M)coming of the (N)Son of Man [l]be.
