Psalm 7

The Lord Implored to Defend the Psalmist against the Wicked.

A [a]Shiggaion of David, which he sang to the Lord [b]concerning Cush, a Benjamite.

O Lord my God, (A)in You I have taken refuge;
Save me from all those who pursue me, and (B)deliver me,
Or he will tear [c]my soul (C)like a lion,
[d]Dragging me away, while there is none to deliver.

O Lord my God, if I have done this,
If there is (D)injustice in my hands,
If I have (E)rewarded evil to [e]my friend,
Or have (F)plundered [f]him who without cause was my adversary,
Let the enemy pursue [g]my soul and overtake [h]it;
And let him trample my life down to the ground
And lay my glory in the dust. [i]Selah.

(G)Arise, O Lord, in Your anger;
(H)Lift up Yourself against (I)the rage of my adversaries,
And (J)arouse Yourself [j]for me; You have appointed judgment.
Let the assembly of the (K)peoples encompass You,
And over [k]them return on high.
The Lord (L)judges the peoples;
[l](M)Vindicate me, O Lord, according to my righteousness and my integrity that is in me.
O let (N)the evil of the wicked come to an end, but (O)establish the righteous;
For the righteous God (P)tries the hearts and [m]minds.
10 My (Q)shield is [n]with God,
Who (R)saves the upright in heart.
11 God is a (S)righteous judge,
And a God who has (T)indignation every day.

12 If [o]a man (U)does not repent, He will (V)sharpen His sword;
He has (W)bent His bow and [p]made it ready.
13 He has also prepared [q]for Himself deadly weapons;
He makes His (X)arrows fiery shafts.
14 Behold, he travails with wickedness,
And he (Y)conceives mischief and brings forth falsehood.
15 He has dug a pit and hollowed it out,
And has (Z)fallen into the hole which he made.
16 His (AA)mischief will return upon his own head,
And his (AB)violence will descend upon [r]his own pate.

17 I will give thanks to the Lord (AC)according to His righteousness
And will (AD)sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High.

Amos 4:6-13

“But I gave you also (A)cleanness of teeth in all your cities
And lack of bread in all your places,
Yet you have (B)not returned to Me,” declares the Lord.
“Furthermore, I (C)withheld the rain from you
While there were still three months until harvest.
Then I would send rain on one city
And on (D)another city I would not send rain;
One part would be rained on,
While the part not rained on would dry up.
“So two or three cities would stagger to another city to drink (E)water,
But would (F)not be satisfied;
Yet you have (G)not returned to Me,” declares the Lord.
“I (H)smote you with scorching wind and mildew;
And the (I)caterpillar was devouring
Your many gardens and vineyards, fig trees and olive trees;
Yet you have (J)not returned to Me,” declares the Lord.
10 “I sent a (K)plague among you after the manner of Egypt;
I (L)slew your young men by the sword along with your (M)captured horses,
And I made the (N)stench of your camp rise up in your nostrils;
Yet you have (O)not returned to Me,” declares the Lord.
11 “I overthrew you, as (P)God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah,
And you were like a (Q)firebrand snatched from a blaze;
Yet you have (R)not returned to Me,” declares the Lord.
12 “Therefore thus I will do to you, O Israel;
Because I will do this to you,
Prepare to (S)meet your God, O Israel.”
13 For behold, He who (T)forms mountains and (U)creates the wind
And (V)declares to man what are His thoughts,
He who (W)makes dawn into darkness
And (X)treads on the high places of the earth,
(Y)The Lord God of hosts is His name.

1 John 3:11-17

11 (A)For this is the message (B)which you have heard from the beginning, (C)that we should love one another; 12 not as (D)Cain, who was of (E)the evil one and slew his brother. And for what reason did he slay him? Because (F)his deeds were evil, and his brother’s were righteous.

13 Do not be surprised, brethren, if (G)the world hates you. 14 We know that we have (H)passed out of death into life, (I)because we love the brethren. He who does not love abides in death. 15 Everyone who (J)hates his brother is a murderer; and you know that (K)no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. 16 We know love by this, that (L)He laid down His life for us; and (M)we ought to lay down our lives for the (N)brethren. 17 But (O)whoever has the world’s goods, and sees his brother in need and (P)closes his [a]heart [b]against him, (Q)how does the love of God abide in him?
