Psalm 77:1-2

Comfort in Trouble from Recalling God’s Mighty Deeds.

For the music director; [a]according to Jeduthun. A Psalm of Asaph.

77 My voice rises to God, and I will (A)cry aloud;
My voice rises to God, and He will listen to me.
In the (B)day of my trouble I sought the Lord;
(C)In the night my (D)hand was stretched out and did not grow weary;
My soul (E)refused to be comforted.

Psalm 77:11-20

11 I shall remember the (A)deeds of [a]the Lord;
I will certainly (B)remember Your wonders of old.
12 I will (C)meditate on all Your work,
And on Your deeds with thanksgiving.
13 Your way, God, is (D)holy;
(E)What god is great like our God?
14 You are the (F)God who works wonders;
You have (G)made known Your strength among the peoples.
15 By Your [b]power You have (H)redeemed Your people,
The sons of Jacob and (I)Joseph. Selah

16 The (J)waters saw You, God;
The waters saw You, they were in anguish;
The ocean depths also trembled.
17 The (K)clouds poured out water;
The skies [c](L)sounded out;
Your (M)arrows [d]flashed here and there.
18 The (N)sound of Your thunder was in the whirlwind;
The (O)lightning lit up the world;
The (P)earth trembled and shook.
19 Your (Q)way was in the sea
And Your paths in the mighty waters,
And Your footprints were not known.
20 You (R)led Your people like a flock
By the hand of (S)Moses and Aaron.

1 Kings 22:29-40

Defeat and Death of Ahab

29 So (A)the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah went up against Ramoth-gilead. 30 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “(B)I will disguise myself and go into the battle, but you put on your robes.” So the king of Israel disguised himself and went into the battle. 31 Now (C)the king of Aram had commanded the thirty-two commanders of his chariots, saying, “Do not fight with the small or great, but only with the king of Israel.” 32 So when the commanders of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, they said, “Surely he is the king of Israel!” And they turned aside to fight against him, and Jehoshaphat cried out. 33 Then, when the commanders of the chariots saw that it was not the king of Israel, they turned back from pursuing him.

34 Now one man drew his bow at random and struck the king of Israel [a]in a joint of the armor. So he said to the driver of his chariot, “Turn [b]around and take me out of the battle, (D)for I am severely wounded.” 35 The battle [c]raged on that day, and the king was propped up in his chariot in front of the Arameans, and he died at evening, and the blood from the wound ran into the bottom of the chariot. 36 (E)Then the word passed throughout the army close to sunset, saying, “Every man to his city, and every man to his [d]country!”

37 So the king died and was brought to Samaria, and they buried the king in Samaria. 38 They washed out the chariot by the pool of Samaria, and the dogs licked up his blood (it was there that the prostitutes bathed themselves) (F)in accordance with the word of the Lord which He had spoken. 39 Now as for the rest of the acts of Ahab and everything that he did, and (G)the ivory house which he built and all the cities which he built, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel? 40 So Ahab [e]lay down with his fathers, and his son Ahaziah became king in his place.

1 Kings 22:51-53

51 Ahaziah the son of Ahab (A)became king over Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and he reigned over Israel for two years. 52 He did evil in the sight of the Lord and (B)walked in the way of his father and in the way of his mother, and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who misled Israel into sin. 53 (C)So he served Baal and worshiped him, and provoked the Lord God of Israel to anger, according to all that his father had done.

2 Corinthians 13:5-10

(A)Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; (B)examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you—unless indeed you [a](C)fail the test? But I expect that you will realize that we ourselves [b]do not fail the test. Now we pray to God that you do nothing wrong; not so that we ourselves may appear approved, but that you may do what is right, though we may [c]appear unapproved. For we cannot do anything against the truth, but only for the truth. For we rejoice when we ourselves are (D)weak, but you are strong; this we also pray for, [d]that you (E)become mature. 10 For this reason I am writing these things while absent, so that when present (F)I need not use (G)severity, in accordance with the (H)authority which the Lord gave me for building up and not for tearing down.
