5 检验你们自己吧，看看自己是否是在信仰中生活。考验一下你们自己吧。你们知道耶稣基督在你们之中。如果你们经不起这种考验，那么耶稣基督就没有生活在你们中间。 6 我希望你们将会看到我们在这种考验中没有失败。 7 我们向上帝祈祷，祈祷你们不要做任何错事。人们看到我们经受住了考验并不重要，甚至人们认为我们没有经受住这考验，重要的是你们要做正确的事。 8 我们不能做反对真理的任何事，而是只能拥护真理。 9 每当我们软弱，你们坚强的时候，我们就高兴。这是我们为之祈祷的：愿你们得以完美。 10 所以，我和你们不在一起时，写下这些，以便我与你们在一起时，不必用我的权力来惩罚你们，主赐给我这权力是用来使你们更加坚强，而不是为了毁掉你们。
