Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
Thanksgiving for the Lord’s Favor.
A Psalm of David.
138 (A)I will give You thanks with all my heart;
I will sing Your praises before the (B)gods.
2 I will bow down (C)toward Your holy temple
And (D)give thanks to Your name for Your mercy and Your [a]truth;
For You have (E)made Your [b]word great [c]according to all Your name.
3 On the day I (F)called, You answered me;
You made me bold with (G)strength in my soul.
4 (H)All the kings of the earth will give thanks to You, Lord,
When they have heard the words of Your mouth.
5 And they will (I)sing of the ways of the Lord,
For (J)great is the glory of the Lord.
6 For (K)the Lord is exalted,
Yet He (L)looks after the lowly,
But He knows the (M)haughty from afar.
7 Though I (N)walk in the midst of trouble, You will [d](O)revive me;
You will (P)reach out with Your hand against the wrath of my enemies,
And Your right hand will (Q)save me.
8 The Lord will (R)accomplish what concerns me;
Your (S)faithfulness, Lord, is everlasting;
(T)Do not abandon the (U)works of Your hands.
12 (A)Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go up to this (B)mountain of Abarim, and see the land which I have given to the sons of Israel. 13 When you have seen it, you too (C)will be gathered to your people, (D)just as Aaron your brother [a]was; 14 for in the wilderness of Zin, during the strife of the congregation, (E)you rebelled against My [b]command to treat Me as holy before their eyes at the water.” (These are the waters of Meribah of Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.)
Joshua to Succeed Moses
15 Then Moses spoke to the Lord, saying, 16 “(F)May the Lord, the God of the spirits of [c]humanity, appoint a man over the congregation, 17 who (G)will go out [d]and come in before them, and lead them out and [e]bring them in, so that the congregation of the Lord will not be (H)like sheep that have no shepherd.” 18 So the Lord said to Moses, “[f]Take Joshua the son of Nun, a man (I)in whom is the Spirit, and (J)lay your hand on him; 19 and have him stand before Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation, and (K)commission him in their sight. 20 And you shall put some of your [g]authority on him, so that all the congregation of the sons of Israel will obey him. 21 Moreover, he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him (L)by the judgment of the Urim before the Lord. At his [h]command they shall go out, and at his [i]command they shall come in, both he and all the sons of Israel with him, all the congregation.” 22 Then Moses did just as the Lord commanded him; he took Joshua and had him stand before Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation. 23 Then he laid his hands on him and (M)commissioned him, just as the Lord had spoken [j]through Moses.
26 (A)When he came to Jerusalem, he tried repeatedly to associate with the disciples; and yet they were all afraid of him, as they did not believe that he was a disciple. 27 But (B)Barnabas took hold of him and brought him to the apostles and described to them how he had (C)seen the Lord on the road, and that He had talked to him, and how (D)he had (E)spoken out boldly in the name of Jesus at Damascus. 28 And he was with them, [a]moving about freely in Jerusalem, (F)speaking out boldly in the name of the Lord. 29 And he was talking and arguing with the [b](G)Hellenistic Jews; but they were attempting to put him to death. 30 Now when (H)the [c]brothers learned of it, they brought him down to (I)Caesarea and (J)sent him away to (K)Tarsus.
31 So (L)the church throughout Judea, Galilee, and Samaria [d]enjoyed peace, as it was being built up; and as it [e]continued in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it kept increasing.
