Mary’s Hymn of Praise

46 And Mary[a] said,[b]

“My soul exalts[c] the Lord,[d]
47 and my spirit has begun to rejoice[e] in God my Savior,
48 because he has looked upon the humble state of his servant.[f]
For[g] from now on[h] all generations will call me blessed,[i]
49 because he who is mighty[j] has done great things for me, and holy is his name;
50 from[k] generation to generation he is merciful[l] to those who fear[m] him.
51 He has demonstrated power[n] with his arm; he has scattered those whose pride wells up from the sheer arrogance[o] of their hearts.
52 He has brought down the mighty[p] from their thrones, and has lifted up those of lowly position;[q]
53 he has filled the hungry with good things,[r] and has sent the rich away empty.[s]
54 He has helped his servant Israel, remembering[t] his mercy,[u]
55 as he promised[v] to our ancestors,[w] to Abraham and to his descendants[x] forever.”

Micah 4:6-8

Restoration Will Follow Crisis

“In that day,” says the Lord, “I will gather the lame
and assemble the outcasts whom I injured.[a]
I will transform the lame into the nucleus of a new nation,[b]
and those far off[c] into a mighty nation.
The Lord will reign over them on Mount Zion,
from that day forward and forevermore.[d]
As for you, watchtower for the flock,[e]
fortress of Daughter Zion[f]
your former dominion will be restored,[g]
the sovereignty that belongs to Daughter Jerusalem.”

2 Peter 1:16-21

16 For we did not follow cleverly concocted fables when we made known to you the power and return[a] of our Lord Jesus Christ;[b] no,[c] we were[d] eyewitnesses of his[e] grandeur.[f] 17 For he received honor and glory from God the Father, when that[g] voice was conveyed to him by the Majestic Glory: “This is my dear Son, in whom I am delighted.”[h] 18 When this voice was conveyed from heaven, we ourselves[i] heard it, for we were with him on the holy mountain.[j] 19 Moreover,[k] we[l] possess the prophetic word as an altogether reliable thing.[m] You do well if you pay attention[n] to this[o] as you would[p] to a light shining in a murky place, until the day dawns and the morning star[q] rises in your hearts.[r] 20 Above all, you do well if you recognize[s] this:[t] No prophecy of scripture ever comes about by the prophet’s own imagination,[u] 21 for no prophecy was ever borne of human impulse; rather, men[v] carried along by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.
