Psalm 80:1-7

Psalm 80

For the Music Director. To the melody of “Lilies of the Testimony.” A Psalm of Asaph.

Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel,
    You who lead Joseph like a flock;
You who are enthroned between the cherubim, shine forth.
    In the sight of Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh,
stir up Your strength,
    and come and rescue us.

Restore us again, O God,
    and cause Your face to shine,
    and we shall be delivered.

O Lord God of Hosts,
    how long will You be angry
    against the prayers of Your people?
You have fed them with the bread of tears
    and have given them tears to drink in great measure.
You make us contention for our neighbors,
    and our enemies laugh among themselves.

Restore us again, O God of Hosts,
    and cause Your face to shine,
    and we shall be delivered.

Isaiah 66:7-11

Before she was in labor,
    she gave birth;
before her pain came,
    she delivered a son.
Who has heard such a thing?
    Who has seen such things?
Shall the earth be made to give birth in one day?
    Shall a nation be born at once?
For as soon as Zion was in labor,
    she brought forth her sons.
Shall I bring to the point of birth
    and not cause delivery? says the Lord.
Shall I who cause delivery
    shut the womb? says your God.
10 Rejoice with Jerusalem and be glad for her,
    all you who love her;
rejoice exceedingly with her,
    all you who mourn for her,
11 that you may feed and be satisfied
    with her consoling breasts,
that you may feed
    and be delighted with the abundance of her bosom.

Luke 13:31-35

The Lament Over Jerusalem(A)

31 On the same day certain Pharisees came, saying to Him, “Get out and depart from here, for Herod wants to kill You.”

32 He said to them, “Go and tell that fox, ‘Look, I cast out demons. And I perform healings today and tomorrow, and on the third day I shall be perfected.’ 33 Nevertheless I must travel today and tomorrow and the day following. For it cannot be that a prophet should perish outside Jerusalem.

34 “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to you! How often would I have gathered your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing! 35 Look, your house is forsaken. Truly I say to you, you shall not see Me until the time comes when you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.’[a]
