Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
Unless Yahweh Builds the House
A Song of Ascents. Of Solomon.
127 Unless Yahweh (A)builds the house,
They labor in vain who build it;
Unless Yahweh (B)watches the city,
The watchman keeps awake in vain.
2 It is in vain that you rise up early,
That you sit out late,
O you who (C)eat the bread of [a]painful labors;
For in this manner, He gives (D)sleep to His (E)beloved.
3 Behold, (F)children are [b]an inheritance of Yahweh,
The (G)fruit of the womb is a reward.
4 Like arrows in the hand of a (H)warrior,
So are the children of one’s youth.
5 How (I)blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them;
(J)They will not be ashamed
When they (K)speak with enemies (L)in the gate.
11 And all the people who were in the gate, and the elders, said, “We are witnesses. May Yahweh grant the woman who is coming into your home to be (A)like Rachel and Leah, both of whom built the house of Israel, and so you shall [a]achieve [b]excellence in Ephrathah and shall [c]proclaim your name in Bethlehem. 12 Moreover, may your house be like the house of (B)Perez whom Tamar bore to Judah, through the seed which Yahweh will grant you by this young woman.”
13 So Boaz took Ruth, and she became his wife, and he went in to her. And (C)Yahweh granted her conception, and she gave birth to a son. 14 Then the (D)women said to Naomi, “Blessed is Yahweh who has not left you without a [d]kinsman redeemer today, and may his name [e]be proclaimed in Israel. 15 May he also be to you a restorer of your soul and a sustainer of your [f]old age; for your daughter-in-law, who loves you [g](E)and is better to you than seven sons, has given birth to him.”
The Generations of David
16 Then Naomi took the child [h]and put him on her bosom and became his nurse. 17 The neighbor women gave him a name, saying, “A son has been born to Naomi!” So they named him Obed. He is the father of Jesse, the father of David.
15 And for this reason (A)He is the (B)mediator of a (C)new covenant, so that, since a death has taken place for the redemption of the trespasses that were committed under the first covenant, those who have been (D)called may (E)receive the promise of (F)the eternal inheritance. 16 For where a [a]covenant is, there must of necessity [b]be the death of the one who made it. 17 For a [c]covenant is valid only when [d]men are dead, [e]for it is never in force while the one who made it lives. 18 Therefore not even the first covenant was inaugurated without blood. 19 For when every commandment had been (G)spoken by Moses to all the people according to the Law, (H)he took the (I)blood of the calves and the goats, with (J)water and scarlet wool and hyssop, and sprinkled both (K)the book itself and all the people, 20 saying, “(L)This is the blood of the covenant which God commanded you.” 21 And in the same way, both the tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry he (M)sprinkled with the blood. 22 And according to the [f]Law, one may (N)almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and (O)without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.
23 Therefore it was necessary for the (P)copies of the things in the heavens to be cleansed with these, but (Q)the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. 24 For Christ (R)did not enter holy places made with hands, mere copies of (S)the true ones, but into (T)heaven itself, now (U)to appear in the presence of God for us;
