Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
There Is No One Who Does Good
For the choir director. Of David.
14 The [a]wicked fool (A)says in his heart, “There is no God.”
They act corruptly, they commit abominable [b]deeds;
There is (B)no one who does good.
2 Yahweh (C)looks down from heaven upon the sons of men
To see if there is anyone who [c](D)has insight,
Anyone who (E)seeks after God.
3 They have all (F)turned aside, altogether they have become [d]worthless;
There is (G)no one who does good, not even one.
13 So Joab and the people who were with him drew near for the battle against the Arameans, and (A)they fled before him. 14 Now the sons of Ammon saw that the Arameans fled. So they also fled before Abishai and came into the city. (B)Then Joab returned from fighting against the sons of Ammon and came to Jerusalem.
15 Then the Arameans saw that they had been [a]defeated by Israel. So they gathered themselves together. 16 (C)And Hadadezer sent and brought out the Arameans who were beyond the [b]River, and they came to Helam; and (D)Shobach the commander of the army of Hadadezer [c]led them. 17 And it was told to David, so he gathered all Israel together and crossed the Jordan, and came to Helam. And the Arameans arranged themselves to meet David and fought against him. 18 But the Arameans fled before Israel, and David killed of the Arameans (E)700 charioteers and 40,000 horsemen and struck down Shobach the commander of their army, and he died there. 19 Then all the kings, the servants of Hadadezer, saw that they were [d]defeated by Israel. So (F)they made peace with Israel and served them. And the Arameans were afraid to save the sons of Ammon anymore.
31 Meanwhile the disciples were urging Him, saying, “(A)Rabbi, eat.” 32 But He said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.” 33 So the (B)disciples were saying to one another, “Has anyone brought Him anything to eat?” 34 Jesus *said to them, “My food is to (C)do the will of Him who sent Me and to (D)finish His work. 35 Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white (E)for harvest. 36 Even now he who reaps is receiving (F)wages and is gathering (G)fruit for (H)life eternal; so that he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together. 37 For in this case the saying is true, ‘(I)One sows and another reaps.’ 38 I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored and you have entered into their labor.”
