Yahweh Is My Rock and My Fortress
For the choir director. Of the servant of Yahweh, of David, [a]who spoke to Yahweh the words of this song in the day that Yahweh delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul.
18 He said, “I love You, O Yahweh, (A)my strength.”
2 Yahweh is (B)my [b]rock and (C)my fortress and my (D)deliverer,
My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge;
My (E)shield and the (F)horn of my salvation, my (G)stronghold.
3 I call upon Yahweh, who is (H)worthy to be praised,
And I am (I)saved from my enemies.
4 The (J)cords of death encompassed me,
And the (K)torrents of vileness [c]terrified me.
5 The (L)cords of Sheol surrounded me;
The snares of death confronted me.
6 In my (M)distress I called upon Yahweh,
And cried to my God for help;
He heard my voice (N)out of His temple,
And my (O)cry for help before Him came into His ears.
43 You have delivered me from the (A)contentions of the people;
You have placed me as (B)head of the nations;
A (C)people whom I have not known serve me.
44 As soon as they hear, they obey me;
Foreigners [a](D)cower before me.
45 Foreigners (E)fade away,
And (F)come trembling out of their [b]fortresses.
46 Yahweh (G)lives, and blessed be (H)my rock;
And let (I)the God of my salvation be lifted high,
47 The God who (J)executes vengeance for me,
And (K)subdues peoples under me.
48 Who (L)delivers me from my enemies;
Surely You (M)lift me above those who rise up against me;
You rescue me from the (N)violent man.
49 Therefore I will (O)give thanks to You among the nations, O Yahweh,
And I will (P)sing praises to Your name.
50 He gives great [c](Q)salvation to His king,
And shows lovingkindness to (R)His anointed,
To David and (S)his seed forever.
14 And David stayed in the wilderness in the strongholds and remained in the hill country in the wilderness of (A)Ziph. And Saul sought him every day, but (B)God did not give him into his hand.
Saul Pursues David
15 Then David saw that Saul had come out to seek his life. Now David was in the wilderness of Ziph at Horesh. 16 So Jonathan, Saul’s son, arose and went to David at Horesh and (C)strengthened his hand in God. 17 And he said to him, “(D)Do not be afraid, because the hand of Saul my father will not find you, and you will be king over Israel, and I will be second to you; and (E)Saul my father knows that also.” 18 So (F)the two of them cut a covenant before Yahweh; and David stayed at Horesh while Jonathan went to his house.
16 But [a](A)thanks be to God who (B)puts the same earnestness on your behalf in the heart of (C)Titus. 17 For he not only accepted our (D)plea, but being himself very earnest, he has gone out to you of his own accord. 18 And we have sent along with him (E)the brother whose praise in the things of the (F)gospel is throughout (G)all the churches. 19 (H)And not only this, but he has also been (I)appointed by the churches to travel with us in (J)this gracious work that is being ministered by us for the glory of the Lord Himself, and to show our (K)readiness, 20 [b]taking precaution lest anyone discredits us in our ministering of this generous gift, 21 for we (L)respect what is good, not only in (M)the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men. 22 And we have sent with them our brother, whom we have often tested and found earnest in many things, but now even more earnest because of his great confidence in you. 23 As for (N)Titus, he is my (O)partner and fellow worker [c]among you; as for our (P)brothers, they are [d](Q)messengers of the churches, (R)a glory to Christ. 24 Therefore [e]openly before the churches, [f]show them the proof of your love and of our (S)reason for boasting about you.
