¹⁵ And in those days Peter, standing up in the midst of the brethren, said, (the crowd of names [who were] together [was] about a hundred and twenty,)

¹⁶ Brethren, it was necessary that the scripture should have been fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke before, by the mouth of David, concerning Judas, who became guide to those who took Jesus;

¹⁷ for he was numbered amongst us, and had received a part in this service.

²¹ It is necessary therefore, that of the men who have assembled with us all [the] time in which the Lord Jesus came in and went out among us,

²² beginning from the baptism of John until the day in which he was taken up from us, one of these should be a witness with us of his resurrection.

²³ And they appointed two, Joseph, who was called Barsabas, who had been surnamed Justus, and Matthias.

²⁴ And they prayed, and said, Thou Lord, knower of the hearts of all, shew which one of these two thou hast chosen,

²⁵ to receive the lot of this service and apostleship, from which Judas transgressing fell to go to his own place.

²⁶ And they gave lots on them, and the lot fell on Matthias, and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the wicked, and standeth not in the way of sinners, and sitteth not in the seat of scorners;

² But his delight is in Jehovah's law, and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

³ And he [is] as a tree planted by brooks of water, which giveth its fruit in its season, and whose leaf fadeth not; and all that he doeth prospereth.

⁴ The wicked are not so; but are as the chaff which the wind driveth away.

⁵ Therefore the wicked shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

⁶ For Jehovah knoweth the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked shall perish.

⁹ If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater. For this is the witness of God [which] he has witnessed concerning his Son.

¹⁰ He that believes on the Son of God has the witness in himself; he that does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the witness which God has witnessed concerning his Son.

¹¹ And this is the witness, that God has given to us eternal life; and this life is in his Son.

¹² He that has the Son has life: he that has not the Son of God has not life.

¹³ These things have I written to you that ye may know that ye have eternal life who believe on the name of the Son of God.

⁶ I have manifested thy name to the men whom thou gavest me out of the world. They were thine, and thou gavest them me, and they have kept thy word.

⁷ Now they have known that all things that thou hast given me are of thee;

⁸ for the words which thou hast given me I have given them, and they have received [them], and have known truly that I came out from thee, and have believed that thou sentest me.

⁹ I demand concerning them; I do not demand concerning the world, but concerning those whom thou hast given me, for they are thine,

¹⁰ (and all that is mine is thine, and [all] that is thine mine,) and I am glorified in them.

¹¹ And I am no longer in the world, and these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep them in thy name which thou hast given me, that they may be one as we.

¹² When I was with them I kept them in thy name; those thou hast given me I have guarded, and not one of them has perished, but the son of perdition, that the scripture might be fulfilled.

¹³ And now I come to thee. And these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy fulfilled in them.

¹⁴ I have given them thy word, and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world, as I am not of the world.

¹⁵ I do not demand that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them out of evil.

¹⁶ They are not of the world, as I am not of the world.

¹⁷ Sanctify them by the truth: thy word is truth.

¹⁸ As thou hast sent me into the world, I also have sent them into the world;

¹⁹ and I sanctify myself for them, that they also may be sanctified by truth.
