Acts 3:12-19

12 And when he[a] saw it,[b] Peter replied to the people, “Men and Israelites, why are you astonished at this? Or why are you staring at us, as if by our own power or godliness we have made him walk? 13 The God of Abraham and of Isaac[c] and of Jacob,[d] the God of our fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus, whom you handed over and denied in the presence of Pilate, after[e] he had decided to release him.[f] 14 But you denied the Holy and Righteous One and demanded that a man—a murderer—be granted to you. 15 And you killed the originator of life, whom God raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses! 16 And on the basis of faith in his name, his name has made this man strong, whom you see and know, and the faith that is through him has given him this perfect health in the presence of you all. 17 And now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance, just as your rulers did also. 18 But the things which God foretold through the mouth of all the prophets, that his Christ[g] would suffer, he has fulfilled in this way. 19 Therefore repent and turn back, so that your sins may be blotted out,

Psalm 4

Safety in Yahweh

For the music director; with stringed instruments. A psalm of David.[a]

When I call, answer me, O God of my righteousness.[b]
In trouble deliver me.[c]
Be gracious to me and hear my prayer.
O sons of man, how long will my honor[d] be a disgrace?
How long will you love vanity?
How long will you seek lies?[e] Selah
But know that Yahweh has set apart[f] for himself the faithful one.[g]
Yahweh hears when I call to him.
Be disturbed but do not sin.
Commune in your heart[h] on your bed and be silent. Selah
Offer correct sacrifices,[i]
and trust in[j] Yahweh.
Many are saying, “Who will show us something good?”
Lift up over[k] us the light of your face, O Yahweh.
You have put gladness in my heart
more than when[l] their grain and their wine abound.
In peace I will lie down and sleep at once,[m]
for you alone, O Yahweh, make me dwell safely.

1 John 3:1-7

See what sort of love the Father has given to us: that we should be called children of God, and we are! Because of this the world does not know us: because it did not know him. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been revealed. We know that whenever he is revealed we will be like him, because we will see him just as he is. And everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as that one is pure.

Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. And you know that that one was revealed in order that he might take away sins, and in him there is no sin. Everyone who resides in him does not sin. Everyone who sins has neither seen him nor known him. Little children, let no one deceive you: the one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as that one is righteous.

Luke 24:36-48

Jesus Appears to His Disciples

36 And while[a] they were saying these things, he himself stood there among them.[b] 37 But they were startled and became terrified, and[c] thought they had seen a ghost. 38 And he said to them, “Why are you frightened? And for what reason do doubts arise in your hearts? 39 Look at my hands and my feet, that I am I myself! Touch me and see, because a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see that I have.”[d] 40 And when he[e] had said this, he showed them his[f] hands and his[g] feet. 41 And while[h] they were still disbelieving because of joy and were marveling, he said to them, “Do you have anything to eat[i] here?” 42 So they gave him a piece of broiled fish, 43 and he took it[j] and[k] ate it[l] in front of them.

Jesus Commissions His Disciples

44 And he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I[m] was still with you, that everything that is written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and psalms must be fulfilled.” 45 Then he opened their minds to understand the scriptures, 46 and said to them, “Thus it is written that the Christ would suffer and would rise from the dead on the third day, 47 and repentance and the forgiveness[n] of sins would be proclaimed in his name to all the nations,[o] beginning from Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things.
