Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
God Himself Is Judge
A Psalm of (A)Asaph.
50 (B)The Mighty One, God the Lord,
speaks and summons the earth
(C)from the rising of the sun to its setting.
2 Out of Zion, (D)the perfection of beauty,
(E)God shines forth.
3 Our God comes; he (F)does not keep silence;[a]
before him is a devouring (G)fire,
around him a mighty tempest.
4 (H)He calls to the heavens above
and to the earth, that he may judge his people:
5 “Gather to me my faithful ones,
who made (I)a covenant with me by sacrifice!”
6 (J)The heavens declare his righteousness,
for (K)God himself is judge! Selah
16 And the word of the Lord came to (A)Jehu the son of (B)Hanani against Baasha, saying, 2 “Since I (C)exalted you out of the dust and made you leader over my people Israel, and (D)you have walked in the way of Jeroboam and have made my people Israel to sin, provoking me to anger with their sins, 3 behold, I will utterly (E)sweep away (F)Baasha and his house, and I will make your house (G)like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat. 4 (H)Anyone belonging to Baasha who dies in the city the dogs shall eat, and anyone of his who dies in the field the birds of the heavens shall eat.”
5 Now the rest of the acts of Baasha and what he did, and his might, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel? 6 And Baasha slept with his fathers and was buried at (I)Tirzah, and Elah his son reigned in his place. 7 Moreover, the word of the Lord came by the prophet (J)Jehu the son of Hanani against Baasha and his house, both because of all the evil that he did in the sight of the Lord, provoking him to anger with the work of his hands, in being like the house of Jeroboam, and also because (K)he destroyed it.
Jesus Weeps over Jerusalem
41 (A)And when he drew near and saw the city, (B)he wept over it, 42 saying, (C)“Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now (D)they are hidden from your eyes. 43 For (E)the days will come upon you, when your enemies (F)will set up a barricade around you and (G)surround you and hem you in on every side 44 (H)and tear you down to the ground, you and your children within you. And (I)they will not leave one stone upon another in you, because you did not know (J)the time of your (K)visitation.”
