⁵ Surely ^(A)wait in silence for God, O my soul,
For my hope is from Him.
⁶ Surely He is ^(B)my rock and my salvation,
My stronghold; I shall not be shaken.
⁷ On God my ^(C)salvation and my glory rest;
The rock of my strength, my ^(D)refuge is in God.
^8 (E)Trust in Him at all times, O people;
^(F)Pour out your heart before Him;
God is a refuge for us. Selah.

⁹ Surely ^[a]men of ^(G)low degree are merely ^(H)vanity and ^[b]men of rank are a ^(I)lie;
In the ^(J)balances they go up;
They are together lighter than a breath of vanity.
^10 (K)Do not trust in oppression
And do not put vain hope in ^(L)robbery;
If riches increase, ^(M)do not set your heart upon them.

^11 [c]Once God has ^(N)spoken;
^[d]Twice I have heard this:
That ^(O)strength belongs to God;
¹² And that ^(P)to You, O Lord, belongs lovingkindness,
For You ^(Q)repay a man according to his work.

¹⁴ Cursed be the ^(A)day when I was born;
Let the day not be blessed when my mother bore me!
¹⁵ Cursed be the man who brought the good news
To my father, saying,
“A ^[a](B)baby boy has been born to you!”
And made him very glad.
¹⁶ But let that man be like the cities
Which Yahweh ^(C)overthrew without ^[b]relenting,
And let him hear an ^(D)outcry in the morning
And a ^[c]shout of war at noon,
¹⁷ Because he did not ^(E)put me to death from the womb,
So that my mother would have been my grave,
And her womb ever pregnant.
¹⁸ Why did I ever come forth from the womb
To ^(F)look on trouble and sorrow,
So that my ^(G)days have been spent in ^(H)shame?
