Psalm 86

Psalm 86

A Prayer of David.

Incline Your ear, O Lord, and answer me,
    for I am oppressed and needy.
Preserve my soul, for I am godly;
    You are my God; save Your servant
    who trusts in You.
Have mercy on me, O Lord,
    for to You I cry all day long.
Gladden the soul of Your servant,
    for to You, O Lord,
    I lift my soul.

For You, Lord, are good, and forgiving,
    abounding in kindness to all who call on You.
Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer,
    and attend to my plea for mercy.
In the day of my trouble I will call upon You,
    for You will answer me.

Among the gods there is none like You, O Lord;
    neither are there any works like Your works.
All nations whom You have made
    shall come and worship before You, O Lord,
    and shall glorify Your name.
10 For You are great and do wondrous deeds;
    You are God alone.

11 Teach me Your way, O Lord,
    that I will walk in Your truth;
bind my heart
    to fear Your name.
12 I will give You thanks, O Lord my God, with all my heart,
    and I will glorify Your name forever.
13 For great is Your mercy toward me,
    and You have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol.

14 O God, insolent men have risen against me,
    and bands of violent men have sought my life;
    they have not set You before them.
15 But You, O Lord, are a God full of compassion and gracious,
    slow to anger, and abundant in mercy and truth.
16 Turn to me and have mercy on me;
    give Your strength to Your servant,
    and save the humble son of Your female servant.
17 Show me a sign of Your favor,
    that those who hate me may see it and be ashamed
    because You, Lord, have helped and comforted me.

1 Samuel 9:27-10:8

27 As they were going down to the outskirts of the city, Samuel said to Saul, “Tell the servant to pass on before us.” So he passed on. “But you stand still and I will proclaim to you the word of God.”

10 Then Samuel took a vial of oil and poured it upon his head. And he kissed him and said, “Has not the Lord anointed you over His inheritance as ruler? When you have departed from me today, you will find two men by Rachel’s tomb in the territory of Benjamin at Zelzah. And they will say to you, ‘The donkeys which you went to look for have been found. And now, your father has stopped caring about the donkeys, and worries for you, saying, “What will I do for my son?” ’

“Then you will go forward from there, and you will come to the plain of Tabor. And there you will meet three men going up to God to Bethel: one carrying three kids, another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a bottle of wine. And they will greet you and give you two loaves of bread, which you will receive from their hands.

“After that you will come to the hill of God, where the garrison of the Philistines is. And when you come there to the city, you will meet a group of prophets coming down from the high place with a harp, a tambourine, a flute, and a lyre before them. And they will prophesy. And the Spirit of the Lord will come upon you, and you will prophesy with them. And you will be turned into another man. And it will be when these signs come to you, do for yourself what the occasion requires; for God is with you.

“Then you will go down before me to Gilgal. And listen, I will be coming down to you, in order to offer burnt offerings, and to offer sacrifices of peace offerings. Seven days you will wait, until I come to you. Then I will make known to you what you will do.”

2 Corinthians 6:14-7:1

The Temple of the Living God

14 Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with unrighteousness? What communion has light with darkness? 15 What agreement has Christ with Belial? Or what part has he who believes with an unbeliever? 16 What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said:

“I will live in them
    and walk in them.
I will be their God,
    and they shall be My people.”[a]

17 Therefore,

“Come out from among them
    and be separate,
        says the Lord.
Do not touch what is unclean,
    and I will receive you.”[b]

18 “I will be a Father to you,
    and you shall be My sons and daughters,
        says the Lord Almighty.”[c]

Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
