To you I call out, O Lord, my Rock;^[b]
    do not turn a deaf ear to my cry.
For if you remain silent,
    I will be like those who go down to the pit.
² Hear my voice in supplication
    as I plead for your help,
as I lift up my hands^[c]
    toward your Most Holy Place.
³ Do not snatch me away with the wicked,
    with those whose deeds are evil,
who talk of peace to their neighbors
    while treachery is in their hearts.^[d]
4 [e]Repay them as their deeds deserve
    in accordance with the evil they inflict;
repay them for the works of their hands
    and heap upon them what they justly deserve.
⁵ Since they have paid no heed to the deeds of the Lord
    or to the works of his hands,
he will strike them down
    and refuse to restore them.
⁶ Blessed^[f] be the Lord,
    for he has heard my cry of supplication.
⁷ The Lord is my strength and my shield;
    my heart^[g] places its trust in him.
He has helped me, and I exult;
    then with my song I praise him.
⁸ The Lord is the strength of his people,
    the refuge where his anointed one^[h] finds salvation.
⁹ Save your people and bless your heritage;
    be their shepherd^[i] and sustain them forever.

¹⁰ Pay heed, you nations, to the word of the Lord;
    proclaim it even on the distant coastlands and say:
He who scattered Israel will now gather them together
    and watch over his flock like a shepherd.
¹¹ For the Lord has ransomed Jacob
    and redeemed him from the hands of a foe
    far too strong for him.
¹² The people will come forth
    and shout for joy on the heights of Zion
    as they behold the bounty of the Lord:
the grain, the new wine, and the oil,
    the young of the flocks and herds.
They themselves will be like a well-watered garden,
    and never again will sorrow afflict them.
¹³ Then the young girls will dance in their happiness,
    and the old and the young men will rejoice.
I will turn their mourning into gladness;
    I will comfort them
    and replace their sorrow with joy.
¹⁴ I will strengthen my priests with choice food,
    and my people will be overwhelmed with my lavish gifts,
    says the Lord.

“Amen, amen, I say to you,
the Son can do nothing by himself;
he can do only what he sees the Father doing.
For whatever the Father does,
the Son also does.
²⁰ For the Father loves the Son
and shows him everything
that he himself is doing.
And he will show him
even greater works than these,
so that you might be astonished.
²¹ “Indeed, just as the Father raises the dead
and gives them life,
so does the Son give life
to anyone he chooses.
²² The Father judges no one,
for he has entrusted all judgment to the Son,
²³ so that all may honor the Son
as they honor the Father.
Anyone who does not honor the Son
does not honor the Father who sent him.
²⁴ “Amen, amen, I say to you,
whoever hears my words
and believes in the one who sent me
possesses eternal life.
He will not come to judgment
but has passed from death to life.
²⁵ “Amen, amen, I say to you,
the hour is coming,
indeed it is already here,
when the dead will hear
the voice of the Son of God,
and all those who hear it will live.
²⁶ For just as the Father has life in himself,
so also he has granted the Son to have life in himself.
²⁷ And he has also granted him
the power to pass judgment,
because he is the Son of Man.
²⁸ “Do not be astonished at this,
for the hour is coming
when all those who are in their graves
will hear his voice
²⁹ and will come forth from their graves.
Those who have done good deeds
will rise to life,
while those who have done evil
will rise to judgment.
³⁰ “I can do nothing on my own.
As I hear, I judge,
and my judgment is just,
because I seek to do
not my own will
but the will of him who sent me.

^31 [b]“If I were to testify about myself,
my testimony would not be true.
³² However, there is another who testifies about me,
and I know that his testimony is true,
the testimony he bore concerning me.
³³ You sent messengers to John,
and he has testified to the truth.
³⁴ Not that I accept such human testimony,
but I say these things
so that you may be saved.
³⁵ “John was a burning and shining lamp,
and for a time you were willing
to exult in his light.
³⁶ But I have testimony that is greater than John’s.
The works that my Father
has given me to accomplish,
the very works that I am doing,
testify about me,
that the Father has sent me.
³⁷ “And the Father who sent me
has himself testified about me.
You have not heard his voice
or seen his form,
³⁸ and you do not have his word
abiding in you,
because you do not believe
him whom he has sent.
³⁹ “Search the Scriptures carefully
because you believe that through them
you will gain eternal life.
Even they testify on my behalf.
⁴⁰ Yet you refuse to come to me
to receive that life.
