Version
Exodus 16:2-15

And the whole congregation of the sons of Israel (A)grumbled against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness. And the sons of Israel said to them, “(B)Would that we had died by the hand of Yahweh in the land of Egypt, (C)when we sat by the pots of [a]meat, when we ate bread to the full; for you have brought us out into this wilderness to put this whole assembly to death with hunger.”

Then Yahweh said to Moses, “Behold, (D)I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a day’s portion every day, that I may (E)test them, whether or not they will walk in My [b]law. (F)Now it will be on the sixth day, they shall prepare what they bring in, and it will be twice as much as they gather daily.” So Moses and Aaron said to all the sons of Israel, “At evening [c](G)you will know that Yahweh has brought you out of the land of Egypt; and in the morning [d]you will see (H)the glory of Yahweh, for (I)He hears your grumblings against Yahweh; and (J)what are we, that you grumble against us?”

Yahweh Gives Meat and Bread

And Moses said, “This will happen when Yahweh gives you [e]meat to eat in the evening and bread to the full in the morning; for Yahweh hears your grumblings which you grumble against Him. And what are we? Your grumblings are (K)not against us but against Yahweh.”

Then Moses said to Aaron, “Say to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, ‘(L)Come near before Yahweh, for He has heard your grumblings.’” 10 Now it happened as Aaron spoke to the whole congregation of the sons of Israel, that they turned toward the wilderness, and behold, (M)the glory of Yahweh appeared in the cloud. 11 And Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 12 (N)I have heard the grumblings of the sons of Israel; speak to them, saying, ‘[f]At twilight you shall eat [g]meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread, so that (O)you shall know that I am Yahweh your God.’”

13 So it happened at evening that (P)the quails came up and covered the camp, and in the morning (Q)there was a layer of dew around the camp. 14 (R)Then the layer of dew [h]evaporated, and behold, on the [i]surface of the wilderness (S)there was a fine flake-like thing, fine as the frost on the ground. 15 And the sons of Israel saw it and said to one another, “[j]What is it?” For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, “(T)It is the bread which Yahweh has given you to eat.

Psalm 105:1-6

Remember His Wondrous Deeds

105 Oh (A)give thanks to Yahweh, (B)call upon His name;
(C)Make known His acts among the peoples.
Sing to Him, (D)sing praises to Him;
(E)Muse on all His wondrous deeds.
Boast in His holy name;
Let the (F)heart of those who seek Yahweh be glad.
Inquire of Yahweh and (G)His strength;
(H)Seek His face continually.
Remember His (I)wondrous deeds which He has done,
His miracles and the (J)judgments [a]uttered by His mouth,
O seed of (K)Abraham, His servant,
O sons of (L)Jacob, His (M)chosen ones!

Psalm 105:37-45

37 Then He brought them out with (A)silver and gold,
And there was none among His tribes who stumbled.
38 Egypt was (B)glad when they went out,
For the (C)dread of them had fallen upon them.
39 He spread a (D)cloud for a [a]covering,
And (E)fire to give light by night.
40 [b]They (F)asked, and He brought (G)quail,
And He satisfied them with the [c](H)bread of heaven.
41 He opened the [d]rock and (I)water flowed out;
[e]It ran in the dry places like a river.
42 For He (J)remembered His holy word
With Abraham His servant;
43 And He brought His people out with joy,
His chosen ones with a shout of (K)joy.
44 He (L)gave them also the lands of the [f]nations,
That they (M)might take possession of the fruit of the peoples’ labor,
45 So that they might (N)keep His statutes
And observe His laws,
[g]Praise Yah!

Philippians 1:21-30

To Live Is Christ

21 For to me, (A)to live is Christ and to die is gain. 22 [a]But if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean (B)fruitful labor for me; and I do not know what I will choose. 23 But I am hard-pressed [b]between the two, having the (C)desire to depart and (D)be with Christ, for that is very much better, 24 yet to remain on in the flesh is more necessary for your sake. 25 (E)And convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy [c]in the faith, 26 so that your reason for (F)boasting may abound in Christ Jesus in me, through my coming to you again.

27 Only [d]live your lives in a manner (G)worthy of the (H)gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I will hear about your circumstances, that you are (I)standing firm in (J)one spirit, with one [e]mind (K)contending together for the faith of the gospel, 28 in no way alarmed by your opponents—which is a (L)sign of destruction for them, but of salvation for you, and that too, from God. 29 For to you (M)it has been granted for Christ’s sake, not only to believe in Him, but also to (N)suffer for His sake, 30 having the same (O)struggle which (P)you saw in me, and now hear to be in me.

Matthew 20:1-16

Laborers in the Vineyard

20 “For (A)the kingdom of heaven is like [a]a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his (B)vineyard. Now when he had agreed with the laborers for a [b]denarius for the day, he sent them into his vineyard. And he went out about the [c]third hour and saw others standing idle in the marketplace; and to those he said, ‘You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you.’ And so they went. Again he went out about the [d]sixth and the ninth hour, and did [e]the same thing. And about the [f]eleventh hour he went out and found others standing around; and he *said to them, ‘Why have you been standing here idle all day long?’ They *said to him, ‘Because no one hired us.’ He *said to them, ‘You go into the vineyard too.’

“Now when (C)evening came, the [g]owner of the vineyard *said to his [h](D)foreman, ‘Call the laborers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last group to the first.’ And when those hired about the eleventh hour came, each one received a [i]denarius. 10 And when those hired first came, they supposed that they would receive more; [j]but each of them also received a denarius. 11 Now when they received it, they were grumbling at the landowner, 12 saying, ‘These last men have worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the day and the (E)scorching heat.’ 13 But he answered and said to one of them, ‘(F)Friend, I am doing you no wrong; did you not agree with me for a denarius? 14 Take what is yours and go, but I wish to give to this last man the same as to you. 15 Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with what is my own? Or is your (G)eye [k]envious because I am [l]generous?’ 16 So (H)the last shall be first, and the first last.”
