Psalm 105:1-11

Psalm 105[a]

God’s Faithfulness to the Covenant

[b]Give thanks to the Lord, invoke his name;[c]
    proclaim his deeds among the peoples.
Offer him honor with songs of praise;
    recount all his marvelous deeds.
Glory in his holy name;
    let the hearts[d] of those who seek the Lord exult.
Reflect on the Lord and his strength;
    seek his face continually.
Remember the marvels he has wrought,
    his portents, and the judgments[e] he has set forth.
You are the offspring of his servant Abraham,
    the children of Jacob, his chosen ones.[f]
He is the Lord, our God;
    his judgments prevail all over the earth.
He is mindful of his covenant[g] forever,
    the promise he laid down for a thousand generations,
the covenant he made with Abraham
    and the oath he swore to Isaac.[h]
10 [i]He established it as a decree for Jacob,
    and as an everlasting covenant for Israel,
11 saying, “To you I will give the land of Canaan
    as the portion of your heritage.”

Psalm 105:45

45 so that they might keep his decrees
    and observe his laws.
Alleluia.

Genesis 29:1-8

Chapter 29

The Wedding for Which Jacob Slaved.[a] Jacob set out on his journey and traveled to the lands of the east. He saw a well in the countryside and three flocks of sheep lying beside it. The flocks would drink at this well, but the stone over the mouth of the well was very large. When all the flocks were gathered there, the shepherds would roll the stone from the mouth of the well and the sheep would drink there. They would then replace the stone over the mouth of the well.

Jacob said to them, “My brothers, where are you from?” They said, “We are from Haran.”

He said to them, “Do you know Laban, the son of Nahor?”

They said, “We know him.”

He said to them, “Is he well?”

They answered, “Yes, and here comes his daughter Rachel with his flock.”

He continued, “It is still early; it is not yet the time to gather the sheep together. Give the sheep something to drink and then go and pasture them.”

They said, “We cannot until all the flocks are gathered together. Then we will roll the stone away from the mouth of the well and have the flocks drink.”

1 Corinthians 4:14-20

14 The Authority of a Father in Christ. I am writing all this not to make you ashamed but to admonish you as my beloved children. 15 Even though you have ten thousand tutors in Christ, you do not have many fathers, for I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel.

16 I appeal to you then to be imitators of me. 17 For this reason I have sent you Timothy, who is my beloved and faithful son in the Lord. He will remind you of my ways in Christ, as I teach everywhere in every Church.

18 Some of you have become arrogant, on the assumption that I am not coming to you. 19 However, I will come to you soon, if it is the Lord’s will, and then I will ascertain the actual power of these arrogant people as opposed to their words. 20 For the kingdom of God[a] is not a matter of words but of power.
