Psalm 116:1-4

Psalm 116[a]

Thanksgiving to God for Help Received

I love the Lord because he has heard my voice
and listened to my cry for mercy,[b]
because he has inclined his ear to me
on the day when I called out to him.[c]
The bonds of death[d] encompassed me;
the snares of the netherworld held me tightly.
I was seized by distress and sorrow.
Then I cried out in the name[e] of the Lord:
“O Lord, I entreat you to preserve my life.”

Psalm 116:12-19

12 How can I repay the Lord
for all the good he has done for me?
13 I will lift up the cup of salvation[a]
and call on the name of the Lord.
14 I will fulfill my vows[b] to the Lord
in the presence of his people.
15 Precious in the eyes of the Lord
is the death[c] of his faithful ones.
16 Lord, I am your servant.
I am your servant, the child of your handmaid;[d]
    you have loosed my bonds.
17 I will offer you a sacrifice of thanksgiving
and call on the name of the Lord.
18 I will fulfill my vows to the Lord
in the presence of all his people,
19 in the courts of the house of the Lord,
    in your midst, O Jerusalem.
Alleluia.[e]

Isaiah 26:1-4

Chapter 26

A Song of Victory. On that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah:

We have a strongly fortified city,
with walls and ramparts established to protect us.
Open the gates
to allow the upright nation to enter,
    the nation that keeps faith.
Lord, you grant peace to those who are steadfast
because of their trust in you.
Trust in the Lord forever,
for the Lord is an eternal rock.

1 Peter 1:13-16

13 Convictions for Living.[a] Therefore, prepare your minds for action. Be calm and fix your hopes completely on the grace that you will be granted at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 14 Like obedient children, do not yield to the evil desires you had in your former ignorance. 15 He who called you is holy. Therefore, be holy yourselves in all your conduct. 16 For Scripture says, “Be holy, for I am holy.”
