Version
Acts 2:14

14 Peter Preaches in the Name of the Twelve.[a] Then Peter stood up with the Eleven and proclaimed to them in a loud voice, “Men of Judea and all you who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen carefully to my words.

Acts 2:22-32

22 “Men of Israel, hear these words. Jesus of Nazareth was a man commended to you by God by means of miracles and portents and signs that God worked through him, as you yourselves know. 23 By the set plan and foreknowledge of God, he was handed over into the hands of lawless men. Crucifying him, you killed him. 24 However, God raised him up, releasing him from the pangs of death, because it was impossible for him to be held in its power. 25 For David says of him:

‘I saw the Lord always before me;
    with him at my right hand I shall not be shaken.
26 Therefore, my heart rejoiced and my tongue exulted;
    moreover, my flesh will live in hope.
27 For you will not abandon me to the netherworld
    or allow your holy one to suffer corruption.
28 You have made known to me the way of life;
    you will fill me with joy in your presence.’

29 “Brethren, I can say to you boldly that our ancestor David both died and was buried, and his tomb is in our midst to this very day. 30 But since he was a prophet and knew that God had sworn an oath to him that one of his descendants would sit on his throne, 31 he foresaw and spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, saying that he was not abandoned to the netherworld and that his flesh did not suffer corruption.

32 “God raised this Jesus to life. Of that we are all witnesses.

Psalm 16

Psalm 16[a]

God the Supreme Good

A miktam[b] of David.

Protect me, O God,
    for in you I take refuge.
I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord;
    I have no good apart from you.”
As for the saints[c] who are in the land,
    they are the noble ones,
    and in them there is all my delight.
Those who chase after other gods
    only multiply their sorrows.
Never will I pour out libations of blood to them,
    nor will I take up their names[d] on my lips.
Lord, you are my allotted portion and my cup;[e]
    you have made my lot secure.
The boundary lines have established a pleasant site for me;
    I have truly received a wonderful inheritance.
I bless the Lord who offers me counsel;
    even during the night my heart instructs me.
I keep the Lord always before me,
    for with him at my right hand
    I will never fall.
[f]Therefore, my heart is glad
    and my soul rejoices;
    my body too is filled with confidence.
10 For you will not abandon me to the netherworld
    or allow your Holy One[g] to suffer corruption.
11 You will show me the path to life;
    you will fill me with joy in your presence
    and everlasting delights at your right hand.

1 Peter 1:3-9

The Privileges and Responsibilities of Salvation[a]

The Song of the New Life.[b] Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. In his great mercy he has given us a new birth to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead and to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading. It is reserved in heaven for you who because of your faith are being protected by God’s power until the salvation that is ready to be revealed at the end of time.[c]

This is a reason for you to rejoice, even if now for a little while you must suffer trials of many kinds. Thus, the genuine quality of your faith—which is more valuable than gold that is perishable even if it has been tested by fire—may be proved worthy of praise, glory, and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.

Although you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with a joy that is indescribable and glorious. For you are achieving the goal of your faith, that is, the salvation of your souls.

John 20:19-31

19 Jesus Appears to the Disciples.[a] On the evening of that same day, the first day of the week, the doors of the house where the disciples had gathered were locked because of their fear of the Jews. Jesus then came and stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.” 20 After saying this, he showed them his hands and his side.

The disciples were filled with joy when they saw the Lord. 21 “Peace be with you,” Jesus said to them again.

“As the Father has sent me,
so I send you.”

22 After saying this, he breathed on them and said,

“Receive the Holy Spirit.
23 If you forgive anyone’s sins,
they are forgiven.
If you retain anyone’s sins,
they are retained.”

24 Jesus Appears to Thomas.[b] Now Thomas, called the Twin, who was one of the Twelve, was not with the rest when Jesus came. 25 When the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord,” he replied, “Unless I see the mark of the nails on his hands and put my finger into the place where the nails pierced and insert my hand into his side, I will not believe.”

26 Eight days later, the disciples were again in the house, and on this occasion Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood in their midst, and he said, “Peace be with you.” 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Do not doubt any longer, but believe.” 28 Thomas exclaimed, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Then Jesus said to him,

“You have come to believe
because you have seen me.
Blessed are those who have not seen
and yet have come to believe.”

30 Believe in Order To Live.[c] Now Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples that are not recorded in this work. 31 But those written here have been recorded so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that through your belief you may have life in his name.
