Psalm 23

Psalm 23

A Psalm of David.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
    He makes me lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside still waters.
    He restores my soul;
He leads me in paths of righteousness
    for His name’s sake.
Even though I walk
    through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
    for You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff,
    they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
    in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
    my cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
    all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
    forever.

1 Samuel 15:22-31

22 Samuel said,

“Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices
    as much as in obeying the voice of the Lord?
Obedience is better than sacrifice,
    a listening ear than the fat of rams.
23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft,
    and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.
Because you have rejected the word of the Lord,
    He has also rejected you from being king.”

24 Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned. For I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord, and your words, because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice. 25 Now therefore, please pardon my sin and return with me, that I may worship the Lord.”

26 Samuel said to Saul, “I will not return with you. For you have rejected the word of the Lord, and the Lord has rejected you from being king over Israel.”

27 As Samuel turned about to go, he seized the edge of his robe and it tore. 28 Samuel said to him, “The Lord has torn the kingdom of Israel from you this day, and has given it to a neighbor of yours who is better than you. 29 Also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent. For He is not a man, that He should repent.”

30 Then he said, “I have sinned, yet please honor me before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and turn back with me, that I may worship the Lord your God.” 31 So Samuel turned back after Saul, and Saul worshipped the Lord.

Ephesians 5:1-9

Therefore be imitators of God as beloved children. Walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave Himself for us as a fragrant offering and a sacrifice to God.

And do not let sexual immorality, or any impurity, or greed be named among you, as these are not proper among saints. Let there be no filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse joking, which are not fitting. Instead, give thanks. For this you know, that no sexually immoral or impure person, or one who is greedy, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

Walk as Children of Light

Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not be partakers with them.

For you were formerly darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light— for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth—
