Psalm 106:40-48

40 Then (A)the anger of the Lord was kindled against (B)his people,
    and he abhorred his (C)heritage;
41 he (D)gave them into the hand of the nations,
    so that those who hated them ruled over them.
42 Their enemies (E)oppressed them,
    and they were brought into subjection under their power.
43 (F)Many times he delivered them,
    but they were rebellious in their (G)purposes
    and were (H)brought low through their iniquity.

44 Nevertheless, he looked upon their distress,
    when he (I)heard their cry.
45 For their sake he (J)remembered his covenant,
    and (K)relented according to (L)the abundance of his steadfast love.
46 He caused them to be (M)pitied
    by all those who held them captive.

47 (N)Save us, O Lord our God,
    and (O)gather us from among the nations,
that we may give thanks to your holy name
    and glory in your praise.

48 (P)Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,
    from everlasting to everlasting!
(Q)And let all the people say, “Amen!”
    (R)Praise the Lord!

Jeremiah 9:12-26

12 (A)Who is the man so wise that he can understand this? To whom has the mouth of the Lord spoken, that he may declare it? Why is the land ruined (B)and laid waste like a wilderness, so that no one passes through? 13 And the Lord says: (C)“Because they have forsaken my law that I set before them, and have not obeyed my voice or walked in accord with it, 14 but (D)have stubbornly followed their own hearts and have gone after the Baals, as their fathers taught them. 15 Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: (E)Behold, I will feed this people with bitter food, and give them (F)poisonous water to drink. 16 (G)I will scatter them among the nations (H)whom neither they nor their fathers have known, and I will (I)send the sword after them, until I have consumed them.”

17 Thus says the Lord of hosts:
(J)“Consider, and call for the mourning women to come;
    send for the skillful women to come;
18 let them make haste (K)and raise a wailing over us,
    (L)that our eyes may run down with tears
    and our eyelids flow with water.
19 For a sound of wailing is heard from Zion:
    (M)‘How we are ruined!
    We are utterly shamed,
because we have left the land,
    because they have cast down our dwellings.’”

20 Hear, O women, the word of the Lord,
    and let your ear receive the word of his mouth;
teach to your daughters a lament,
    and each to her neighbor a dirge.
21 For death has come up into our windows;
    it has entered our palaces,
(N)cutting off the children from the streets
    and the young men from the squares.
22 Speak: “Thus declares the Lord,
(O)‘The dead bodies of men shall fall
    like dung upon the open field,
(P)like sheaves after the reaper,
    and none shall gather them.’”

23 Thus says the Lord: (Q)“Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, 24 but (R)let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. (S)For in these things I delight, declares the Lord.”

25 “Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when (T)I will punish all those who are circumcised merely in the flesh— 26 (U)Egypt, Judah, Edom, the sons of Ammon, Moab, and (V)all who dwell in the desert who cut the corners of their hair, for all these nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are (W)uncircumcised in heart.”

Acts 4:1-12

Peter and John Before the Council

And as they were speaking to the people, the priests and (A)the captain of the temple and (B)the Sadducees came upon them, greatly annoyed because they were teaching the people and proclaiming (C)in Jesus the resurrection from the dead. And they arrested them and (D)put them in custody until the next day, for it was already evening. But many of those who had heard the word believed, and (E)the number of the men came to about five thousand.

On the next day their rulers and elders and scribes gathered together in Jerusalem, with (F)Annas the high priest and (G)Caiaphas and John and Alexander, and all who were of the high-priestly family. And when they had set them in the midst, they inquired, (H)“By what power or (I)by what name did you do this?” Then Peter, (J)filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders, if we are being examined today (K)concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed, 10 let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that (L)by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, (M)whom God raised from the dead—by him this man is standing before you well. 11 (N)This Jesus[a] is the stone that was (O)rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone.[b] 12 And there is (P)salvation (Q)in no one else, for (R)there is no other (S)name under heaven given among men[c] by which we must be saved.”
