Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
God Will Judge with Equity
To the choirmaster: according to (A)Do Not Destroy. (B)A Psalm of Asaph. A Song.
75 We give thanks to you, O God;
we give thanks, for your name is (C)near.
We[a] recount your wondrous deeds.
2 “At (D)the set time that I appoint
I will judge (E)with equity.
3 When the earth (F)totters, and all its inhabitants,
it is I who keep steady its (G)pillars. Selah
4 I say to the boastful, ‘Do not boast,’
and to the wicked, (H)‘Do not lift up your horn;
5 do not lift up your horn on high,
or speak with haughty neck.’”
6 For not from the east or from the west
and not from the wilderness comes (I)lifting up,
7 but it is (J)God who executes judgment,
(K)putting down one and lifting up another.
8 (L)For in the hand of the Lord there is (M)a cup
with foaming wine, (N)well mixed,
and he pours out from it,
and all the wicked of the earth
shall (O)drain it down to the dregs.
4 Now Mesha king of Moab was a sheep breeder, (A)and he had to deliver to the king of Israel 100,000 lambs and the wool of 100,000 rams. 5 But (B)when Ahab died, the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel. 6 So King Jehoram marched out of Samaria at that time and mustered all Israel. 7 And he went and sent word to Jehoshaphat king of Judah: “The king of Moab has rebelled against me. Will you go with me to battle against Moab?” And he said, “I will go. (C)I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.” 8 Then he said, “By which way shall we march?” Jehoram answered, “By the way of the wilderness of Edom.”
9 So the king of Israel went with the king of Judah and (D)the king of Edom. And when they had made a circuitous march of seven days, there was no water for the army or for the animals that followed them. 10 Then the king of Israel said, “Alas! (E)The Lord has called these three kings to give them into the hand of Moab.” 11 (F)And Jehoshaphat said, “Is there no prophet of the Lord here, through whom we may inquire of the Lord?” Then one of the king of Israel's servants answered, (G)“Elisha the son of Shaphat is here, (H)who poured water on the hands of Elijah.” 12 And Jehoshaphat said, “The word of the Lord is with him.” So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.
13 And Elisha said to the king of Israel, (I)“What have I to do with you? Go to (J)the prophets of your father and to (K)the prophets of your mother.” But the king of Israel said to him, “No; it is (L)the Lord who has called these three kings to give them into the hand of Moab.” 14 And Elisha said, (M)“As the Lord of hosts lives, before whom I stand, were it not that I have regard for Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would neither look at you nor see you. 15 But now (N)bring me a musician.” And when the musician played, (O)the hand of the Lord came upon him. 16 And he said, “Thus says the Lord, ‘I will make this dry streambed full of pools.’ 17 For thus says the Lord, ‘You shall not see wind or rain, but that streambed shall be filled with water, so that you shall drink, you, your livestock, and your animals.’ 18 This is a light thing in the sight of the Lord. He will also give the Moabites into your hand, 19 and you shall attack every fortified city and every choice city, and shall fell every good tree and stop up all springs of water (P)and ruin every good piece of land with stones.” 20 The next morning, about the time of (Q)offering the sacrifice, behold, water came from the direction of Edom, till the country was filled with water.
6 (A)Let no one (B)deceive you with empty words, for because of these things (C)the wrath of God comes upon (D)the sons of disobedience. 7 Therefore (E)do not become partners with them; 8 for (F)at one time you were (G)darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. (H)Walk as children of light 9 (for (I)the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), 10 and (J)try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. 11 (K)Take no part in the (L)unfruitful (M)works of darkness, but instead (N)expose them. 12 For (O)it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. 13 But when (P)anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, 14 for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says,
15 (T)Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, 16 (U)making the best use of the time, because (V)the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what (W)the will of the Lord is. 18 And (X)do not get drunk with wine, for that is (Y)debauchery, but (Z)be filled with the Spirit, 19 addressing one another in (AA)psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, 20 (AB)giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father (AC)in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
