Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
24 How many are your works,(A) Lord!
In wisdom you made(B) them all;
the earth is full of your creatures.(C)
25 There is the sea,(D) vast and spacious,
teeming with creatures beyond number—
living things both large and small.(E)
26 There the ships(F) go to and fro,
and Leviathan,(G) which you formed to frolic(H) there.(I)
27 All creatures look to you
to give them their food(J) at the proper time.
28 When you give it to them,
they gather it up;
when you open your hand,
they are satisfied(K) with good things.
29 When you hide your face,(L)
they are terrified;
when you take away their breath,
they die and return to the dust.(M)
30 When you send your Spirit,(N)
they are created,
and you renew the face of the ground.
Israel the Chosen
44 “But now listen, Jacob, my servant,(A)
Israel, whom I have chosen.(B)
2 This is what the Lord says—
he who made(C) you, who formed you in the womb,(D)
and who will help(E) you:
Do not be afraid,(F) Jacob, my servant,(G)
Jeshurun,[a](H) whom I have chosen.
3 For I will pour water(I) on the thirsty land,
and streams on the dry ground;(J)
I will pour out my Spirit(K) on your offspring,
and my blessing(L) on your descendants.(M)
4 They will spring up like grass(N) in a meadow,
like poplar trees(O) by flowing streams.(P)
7 Do not be deceived:(A) God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.(B) 8 Whoever sows to please their flesh,(C) from the flesh will reap destruction;(D) whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.(E) 9 Let us not become weary in doing good,(F) for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.(G) 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good(H) to all people, especially to those who belong to the family(I) of believers.
