⁹ Have mercy upon me, O Lord, for I am in trouble; mine eye is consumed with grief, yea, my soul and my belly.

¹⁰ For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing; my strength faileth because of mine iniquity, and my bones are consumed.

¹¹ I am a reproach among all mine enemies, but especially among my neighbors, and a fear to mine acquaintances; they that see me in the streets flee from me.

¹² I am forgotten as a dead man, out of mind; I am like a broken vessel.

¹³ For I have heard the slander of many; fear was on every side; while they took counsel together against me, they schemed to take away my life.

¹⁴ But I have trusted in Thee, O Lord; I said, “Thou art my God.”

¹⁵ My times are in Thy hand; deliver me from the hand of mine enemies and from them that persecute me.

¹⁶ Make Thy face to shine upon Thy servant; save me for Thy mercies’ sake.

¹⁰ Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise Him; He hath put Him to grief. When thou shalt make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in His hand.

¹¹ He shall see of the travail of His soul, and shall be satisfied. By His knowledge shall My righteous Servant justify many, for He shall bear their iniquities.

¹² Therefore will I divide Him a portion with the great, and He shall divide the spoil with the strong, because He hath poured out His soul unto death. And He was numbered with the transgressors; and He bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

2 Therefore we ought to give even more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.

² For if the word spoken by angels was steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense of reward,

³ how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord and was confirmed unto us by those who heard Him,

⁴ God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders and with divers miracles and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to His own will?

⁵ For it was not unto angels that He put in subjection the world to come, of which we speak.

⁶ But one at a certain place testified, saying, “What is man, that Thou art mindful of him? Or the son of man, that Thou visitest him?

⁷ Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; Thou crowned him with glory and honor and set him over the works of Thy hands.

⁸ Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet.” For in putting all in subjection under him, He left nothing that is not put under him. But now as yet we see not all things put under him.

⁹ But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honor, that He by the grace of God should taste death for every man.
