Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
Psalm 126[a]
God, Our Joy and Our Hope
1 [b]A song of ascents.
When the Lord brought home the captives to Zion,
we seemed to be dreaming.[c]
2 Our mouths were filled with laughter
and our tongues with songs of joy.
Then it was said among the nations,
“The Lord has done great things for them.”[d]
3 The Lord has indeed done great deeds for us,
and we are overflowing with joy.[e]
4 [f]Once again restore our fortunes,[g] O Lord,
as you did for the streams in the Negeb.
5 Those who sow in tears[h]
will reap with songs of joy.
6 Those who go forth weeping,
carrying the seeds to be sown,[i]
will return with shouts of joy,
carrying their sheaves.
8 Bring forth my people,
those who have eyes yet are blind,
those who have ears yet are deaf.
9 Let all the nations gather together
and let the peoples assemble.
Who among them foretold this
and proclaimed to us former events?
Let them produce witnesses to prove themselves right;
let those who hear them say, “It is true!”
10 You are my witnesses, says the Lord,
and my servants whom I have chosen,
so that you may know and believe in me
and understand that it is I.
No god was formed before me,
nor will there be any after me.
11 I am the Lord,
and there is no other savior but me.
12 I have revealed and saved and proclaimed,
and not some strange god among you;
you are my witnesses to this, says the Lord.
13 I am God, and from eternity I am he;
no one can deliver from my hand;
no one can overrule or alter what I do.
14 Thus says the Lord, your redeemer,
the Holy One of Israel:
For your sake I will send an army to Babylon
to uproot all the prison bars,
and the triumphant shouts of the Chaldeans
will turn to cries of lamentation.
15 I am the Lord, your Holy One,
the Creator of Israel, your king.
25 Epaphroditus Praised. I have also decided that it is necessary to send you Epaphroditus, my brother and coworker and fellow soldier, who was your messenger and ministered to my needs. 26 He has missed all of you and been greatly distressed because you heard that he was ill. 27 And indeed he was dangerously ill and close to death. However, God had mercy on him—and not merely on him but on me as well, so that I would not have to endure one sorrow on top of another.
28 Therefore, I am all the more eager to send him in order that you may rejoice on seeing him again and I may thereby feel less anxious. 29 Receive him joyfully in the Lord, and value people like him very highly. 30 For he came perilously close to death for the work of Christ, risking his life to render me those services that you were unable to provide.
Chapter 3
1 Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord.
