Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
5 Your (A)mercy, Lord, [a]extends to the heavens,
Your faithfulness reaches to the skies.
6 Your (B)righteousness is like the [b]mountains of God;
Your (C)judgments are like the great deep.
Lord, You [c](D)protect mankind and animals.
7 How (E)precious is Your mercy, God!
And the sons of mankind (F)take refuge in the shadow of Your wings.
8 They (G)drink their fill of the [d]abundance of Your house;
And You allow them to drink from the (H)river of Your delights.
9 For the (I)fountain of life is with You;
In Your light we see light.
The Defiled Land
3 God [a]says, “(A)If a husband divorces his wife
And she leaves him
And becomes another man’s wife,
Will he return to her again?
Would that land not be completely defiled?
But you (B)are a prostitute with many [b]lovers;
Yet you (C)turn to Me,” declares the Lord.
2 “Raise your eyes to the (D)bare heights and see;
Where have you not been violated?
You have (E)sat for them by the roads
Like an Arab in the desert,
And you have (F)defiled a land
With your prostitution and your wickedness.
3 Therefore the (G)showers have been withheld,
And there has been no spring rain.
Yet you had a (H)prostitute’s [c]forehead;
You refused to be ashamed.
4 Have you not just now called to Me,
‘(I)My Father, You are the (J)friend of my (K)youth?
5 (L)Will He be angry forever,
Or keep His anger to the end?’
Behold, you have spoken
And have done evil things,
And you have [d]had your own way.”
18 Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money, 19 saying, “Give this authority to me as well, so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.” 20 But Peter said to him, “May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could (A)acquire the gift of God with money! 21 You have (B)no part or share in this [a]matter, for your heart is not (C)right before God. 22 Therefore, repent of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord that, (D)if possible, the intention of your heart will be forgiven you. 23 For I see that you are [b]in the gall of bitterness and in (E)the [c]bondage of unrighteousness.” 24 But Simon answered and said, “(F)Pray to the Lord for me yourselves, so that nothing of what you have said may come upon me.”
