Isaiah 43:1-7

The Restorer of Israel

43 But now thus says Yahweh,

he who created you, Jacob,
and he who formed you, Israel:
“You must not fear, for I have redeemed you.
I have called you by your name; you are mine.[a]
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you,
and through the rivers, they shall not flow over you.
When you walk through fire, you shall not be burned,
and the flame shall not scorch[b] you.
For I am Yahweh, your God,
the holy one of Israel, your savior.
I give you Egypt as ransom,
Cush and Seba in place of you.
Because you are precious in my eyes,
you are honored, and I myself love you,
and I give people in place of you,
and nations in place of your life.
You must not fear,
    for I am with you.
I will bring your offspring[c] from the east,
and I will gather you from the west.
I will say to the north, ‘Give!’
and to the south, ‘You must not withhold!’
Bring my sons from far away,
and my daughters from the end of the earth—
everyone who is called by my name,
and whom I created for my glory,
whom I formed,
    indeed whom I made.”

Psalm 29

Praise to God for His Glory and Strength

A psalm of David.[a]

29 Ascribe to Yahweh, O sons of God,[b]
ascribe to Yahweh glory and strength.
Ascribe to Yahweh the glory due[c] his name.
Worship Yahweh in holy array.
The voice of Yahweh is over the waters;
the God of glory thunders.
Yahweh is over many waters.
The voice of Yahweh is powerful.
The voice of Yahweh is majestic.
The voice of Yahweh breaks the cedars.
Yahweh shatters even the cedars of Lebanon.
And he makes them skip like a calf;
Lebanon and Sirion like a young wild ox.
The voice of Yahweh flashes[d] flames of fire.
The voice of Yahweh shakes the wilderness.
Yahweh shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.
The voice of Yahweh causes deer[e] to give birth
and strips the forests bare.
And at his temple all in it say, “Glory!”
10 Yahweh sits enthroned at the flood,
and Yahweh sits as king forever.
11 May Yahweh give strength to his people.
May Yahweh bless his people with peace.

Acts 8:14-17

14 Now when[a] the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them, 15 who went down and[b] prayed for them so that they would receive the Holy Spirit. 16 (For he had not yet fallen on any of them, but they had only been baptized[c] in the name of the Lord Jesus.) 17 Then they placed their[d] hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit.

Luke 3:15-17

15 And while[a] the people were waiting expectantly and all were pondering in their hearts concerning John, whether perhaps he might be the Christ,[b] 16 John answered them all, saying, “I baptize you with water, but the one who is more powerful than I am is coming, of whom I am not worthy to untie the strap of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 17 His winnowing shovel is in his hand, to clean out his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his storehouse, but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

Luke 3:21-22

The Baptism of Jesus

21 Now it happened that when all the people were baptized, Jesus also was baptized, and while he[a] was praying, heaven was opened, 22 and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”
