Psalm 63

Psalm 63

Praise God Who Satisfies

A psalm of David. When he was in the Wilderness of Judah.(A)

God, you are my God; I eagerly seek you.
I thirst for you;
my body faints for you
in a land that is dry, desolate, and without water.(B)
So I gaze on you in the sanctuary
to see your strength and your glory.(C)

My lips will glorify you
because your faithful love is better than life.(D)
So I will bless you as long as I live;
at your name, I will lift up my hands.(E)
You satisfy me as with rich food;[a](F)
my mouth will praise you with joyful lips.(G)

When I think of you as I lie on my bed,
I meditate on you during the night watches(H)
because you are my helper;(I)
I will rejoice in the shadow of your wings.(J)
I follow close to you;
your right hand holds on to me.(K)

But those who intend to destroy my life
will go into the depths of the earth.(L)
10 They will be given over to the power of the sword;(M)
they will become a meal for jackals.
11 But the king will rejoice in God;(N)
all who swear by him will boast,
for the mouths of liars will be shut.(O)

1 Samuel 17:55-18:5

55 [a] When Saul had seen David going out to confront the Philistine, he asked Abner the commander of the army, “Whose son is this youth, Abner?” (A)

“Your Majesty, as surely as you live, I don’t know,” Abner replied.

56 The king said, “Find out whose son this young man is!”

57 When David returned from killing the Philistine, Abner took him and brought him before Saul with the Philistine’s head still in his hand.(B) 58 Saul said to him, “Whose son are you, young man?”

“The son of your servant Jesse of Bethlehem,”(C) David answered.

David’s Success

18 When David had finished speaking with Saul, Jonathan was bound to David in close friendship,[b] and loved him as much as he loved himself.(D) Saul kept David with him from that day on and did not let him return to his father’s house.

Jonathan made a covenant with David(E) because he loved him as much as himself. Then Jonathan removed the robe he was wearing and gave it to David,(F) along with his military tunic, his sword, his bow, and his belt.

David marched out with the army and was successful in everything Saul sent him to do. Saul put him in command of the fighting men, which pleased all the people and Saul’s servants as well.

Revelation 11:15-19

The Seventh Trumpet

15 The seventh angel blew his trumpet,(A) and there were loud voices in heaven saying,

The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom
of our Lord and of his Christ,
and he will reign forever and ever.(B)

16 The twenty-four elders, who were seated before God on their thrones, fell facedown and worshiped God, 17 saying,

We give you thanks, Lord God, the Almighty,
who is and who was,[a](C)
because you have taken your great power
and have begun to reign.(D)
18 The nations were angry,(E)
but your wrath has come.
The time has come
for the dead to be judged
and to give the reward
to your servants the prophets,(F)
to the saints, and to those who fear your name,
both small and great,(G)
and the time has come to destroy
those who destroy the earth.

19 Then the temple of God in heaven was opened, and the ark of his covenant[b] appeared in his temple. There were flashes of lightning, rumblings and peals of thunder,(H) an earthquake,[c] and severe hail.
