Psalm 127

God’s Blessings in the Home

A Song of Ascents. Of Solomon.

Unless the Lord builds the house,
those who build it labor in vain.
Unless the Lord guards the city,
the guard keeps watch in vain.(A)
It is in vain that you rise up early
    and go late to rest,
eating the bread of anxious toil,
for he gives sleep to his beloved.[a](B)

Sons are indeed a heritage from the Lord,
the fruit of the womb a reward.(C)
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior
are the sons of one’s youth.
Happy is the man who has
    his quiver full of them.
He shall not be put to shame
when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.(D)

Ruth 4:18-22

18 Now these are the descendants of Perez: Perez became the father of Hezron,(A) 19 Hezron of Ram, Ram of Amminadab, 20 Amminadab of Nahshon, Nahshon of Salmon,[a] 21 Salmon of Boaz, Boaz of Obed, 22 Obed of Jesse, and Jesse of David.

Mark 11:12-14

Jesus Curses the Fig Tree

12 On the following day, when they came from Bethany, he was hungry. 13 Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to see whether perhaps he would find anything on it. When he came to it, he found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs.(A) 14 He said to it, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard it.

Mark 11:20-24

The Lesson from the Withered Fig Tree

20 In the morning as they passed by, they saw the fig tree withered away to its roots.(A) 21 Then Peter remembered and said to him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree that you cursed has withered.”(B) 22 Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God.[a](C) 23 Truly I tell you, if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and if you do not doubt in your heart but believe that what you say will come to pass, it will be done for you.(D) 24 So I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received[b] it, and it will be yours.(E)
