New English Translation (NET)
Version
Psalm 127

Psalm 127[a]

A song of ascents;[b] by Solomon.

127 If the Lord does not build a house,[c]
then those who build it work in vain.
If the Lord does not guard a city,[d]
then the watchman stands guard in vain.
It is vain for you to rise early, come home late,
and work so hard for your food.[e]
Yes,[f] he provides for those whom he loves even when they sleep.[g]
Yes,[h] sons[i] are a gift from the Lord;
the fruit of the womb is a reward.
Sons born during one’s youth
are like arrows in a warrior’s hand.[j]
How blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them.
They will not be put to shame[k] when they confront[l] enemies at the city gate.

Ruth 4:1-10

Boaz Settles the Matter

Now Boaz went up[a] to the village gate and sat there. Then along came the guardian[b] whom Boaz had mentioned to Ruth.[c] Boaz said, “Come[d] here, what’s-your-name,[e] and sit down.” So he came[f] and sat down. Boaz chose ten of the village leaders[g] and said, “Sit down here!” So they sat down. Then Boaz said to the guardian,[h] “Naomi, who has returned from the region of Moab, is selling[i] the portion of land that belongs to our relative Elimelech. So I am legally informing you:[j] Acquire it before those sitting here and before the leaders of my people.[k] If you want to exercise your right to redeem it, then do so.[l] But if not, then tell me[m] so I will know.[n] For you possess the first option to redeem it; I am next in line after you.”[o] He replied, “I will redeem it.” Then Boaz said, “When[p] you acquire the field[q] from Naomi,[r] you must also[s] acquire Ruth the Moabite,[t] the wife of our deceased relative,[u] in order to preserve his family name by raising up a descendant who will inherit his property.”[v] The guardian said, “Then I am unable to redeem it, for I would ruin my own inheritance[w] in that case. You may exercise my redemption option, for I am unable to redeem it.”[x] (Now this used to be the customary way to finalize a transaction involving redemption in Israel:[y] A man would remove his sandal and give it to the other party.[z] This was a legally binding act[aa] in Israel.) So the guardian said to Boaz, “You may acquire it,” and he removed his sandal.[ab] Then Boaz said to the leaders and all the people, “You are witnesses today that I have acquired from Naomi all that belonged to Elimelech, Kilion, and Mahlon. 10 I have also acquired Ruth the Moabite, the wife of Mahlon, as my wife to raise up a descendant who will inherit his property[ac] so the name of the deceased might not disappear[ad] from among his relatives and from his village.[ae] You are witnesses today.”

Romans 5:6-11

For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. (For rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person perhaps someone might possibly dare to die.)[a] But God demonstrates his own love for us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, because we have now been declared righteous[b] by his blood,[c] we will be saved through him from God’s wrath.[d] 10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, how much more, since we have been reconciled, will we be saved by his life? 11 Not[e] only this, but we also rejoice[f] in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received this reconciliation.
