Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
Job Repents in Dust and Ashes
42 Then Job answered Yahweh and said,
2 “I know that (A)You can do all things,
And that no purpose of Yours can be thwarted.
3 ‘Who is this that (B)hides counsel without knowledge?’
Therefore I have declared that which I did not understand,
Things (C)too marvelous for me, which I did not know.
4 ‘Hear, now, and I will speak;
I will (D)ask You, and You make me know.’
5 I have (E)heard of You by the hearing of the ear;
But now my (F)eye sees You;
6 Therefore I reject myself,
And I repent in dust and ashes.”
Yahweh Restores Job’s Fortunes
10 And Yahweh (A)restored the fortunes of Job when he prayed for his friends, and Yahweh increased all that Job had twofold. 11 Then all his (B)brothers and all his sisters and all who had known him before came to him, and they ate bread with him in his house; and they (C)consoled him and comforted him for all the calamity that Yahweh had brought on him. And each one gave him one [a]qesitah, and each a ring of gold. 12 (D)And Yahweh blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning; (E)and he had 14,000 sheep and 6,000 camels and 1,000 pairs of oxen and 1,000 female donkeys. 13 (F)He also had seven sons and three daughters. 14 And he named the first Jemimah and the second Keziah and the third Keren-happuch. 15 Now in all the land no women were found so beautiful as Job’s daughters; and their father gave them inheritance among their brothers. 16 And after this, Job lived 140 years and saw his sons and his grandsons, four generations. 17 (G)Then Job died, an old man and full of days.
23 And [a]the former priests, on the one hand, existed in greater numbers because they were prevented by death from continuing, 24 but Jesus, on the other hand, because He continues (A)forever, holds His priesthood permanently. 25 Therefore He is able also to (B)save [b]forever those who (C)draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to (D)make intercession for them.
26 For it was fitting for us to have such a (E)high priest, (F)holy, (G)innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners and (H)exalted above the heavens; 27 who does not need daily, like those high priests, to (I)offer up sacrifices, (J)first for His own sins and then for the sins of the people, because this He did (K)once for all when He (L)offered up Himself. 28 For the Law appoints men as high priests (M)who are weak, but the word of the oath, which came after the Law, appoints (N)a Son, who has been (O)made perfect forever.
Bartimaeus Regains His Sight
46 (A)Then they *came to Jericho. And (B)as He was leaving Jericho with His disciples and a large crowd, a blind beggar named Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the road. 47 And when he heard that it was Jesus the (C)Nazarene, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, (D)Son of David, have mercy on me!” 48 And many were sternly telling him to be quiet, but he kept crying out all the more, “(E)Son of David, have mercy on me!” 49 And Jesus stopped and said, “Call him here.” So they *called the blind man, saying to him, “(F)Take courage, get up! He is calling for you.” 50 And throwing off his outer garment, he jumped up and came to Jesus. 51 And Jesus answered him and said, “What do you want Me to do for you?” And the blind man said to Him, “[a](G)Rabboni, I want to regain my sight!” 52 And Jesus said to him, “Go; (H)your faith has [b]saved you.” Immediately he regained his sight and began following Him on the road.
