Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
9 O God, a new song I will sing to you;
on a ten-stringed lyre I will play for you.(A)
10 You give victory to kings;
you delivered David your servant.(B)
From the menacing sword 11 deliver me;
rescue me from the hands of foreign foes.
Their mouths speak untruth;
their right hands are raised in lying oaths.
III
12 May our sons be like plants(C)
well nurtured from their youth,
Our daughters, like carved columns,
shapely as those of the temple.
13 May our barns be full
with every kind of store.
May our sheep increase by thousands,
by tens of thousands in our fields;
may our oxen be well fattened.
14 May there be no breach in the walls,
no exile, no outcry in our streets.(D)
15 Blessed the people so fortunate;
blessed the people whose God is the Lord.(E)
Solomon’s Wedding Procession
6 D(A) Who is this coming up from the desert,[a]
like columns of smoke
Perfumed with myrrh and frankincense,
with all kinds of exotic powders?
7 See! it is the litter of Solomon;
sixty valiant men surround it,
of the valiant men of Israel:
8 All of them expert with the sword,
skilled in battle,
Each with his sword at his side
against the terrors[b] of the night.
9 King Solomon made himself an enclosed litter
of wood from Lebanon.
10 He made its columns of silver,
its roof of gold,
Its seat of purple cloth,
its interior lovingly fitted.[c]
Daughters of Jerusalem, 11 go out
and look upon King Solomon
In the crown with which his mother has crowned him
on the day of his marriage,
on the day of the joy of his heart.
Counsel to Timothy. 6 [a]If you will give these instructions to the brothers, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished on the words of the faith and of the sound teaching you have followed. 7 Avoid profane and silly myths. Train yourself for devotion,(A) 8 for, while physical training is of limited value, devotion is valuable in every respect, since it holds a promise of life both for the present and for the future.(B) 9 This saying is trustworthy and deserves full acceptance.(C) 10 For this we toil and struggle,[b] because we have set our hope on the living God, who is the savior of all, especially of those who believe.(D)
11 [c]Command and teach these things. 12 Let no one have contempt for your youth,[d] but set an example for those who believe, in speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity.(E) 13 Until I arrive, attend to the reading,[e] exhortation, and teaching. 14 Do not neglect the gift you have, which was conferred on you through the prophetic word[f] with the imposition of hands of the presbyterate.(F) 15 Be diligent in these matters, be absorbed in them, so that your progress may be evident to everyone. 16 Attend to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in both tasks, for by doing so you will save both yourself and those who listen to you.
