Psalm 14[a]

14 Fools say to themselves,[b] “There is no God.”[c]
They sin and commit evil deeds;[d]
none of them does what is right.[e]
2 The Lord looks down from heaven[f] at the human race,[g]
to see if there is anyone who is wise[h] and seeks God.[i]
3 Everyone rejects God;[j]
they are all morally corrupt.[k]
None of them does what is right,[l]
not even one.
4 All those who behave wickedly[m] do not understand—[n]
those who devour my people as if they were eating bread,
and do not call out to the Lord.
5 They are absolutely terrified,[o]
for God defends the godly.[p]
6 You want to humiliate the oppressed,[q]
even though[r] the Lord is their[s] shelter.
7 I wish the deliverance[t] of Israel would come from Zion!
When the Lord restores the well-being of his people,[u]
may Jacob rejoice,[v]
may Israel be happy![w]
13 So Joab and his men[a] marched out to do battle with the Arameans, and they fled before him. 14 When the Ammonites saw the Arameans flee, they fled before his brother Abishai and went into the city. Joab withdrew from fighting the Ammonites and returned to[b] Jerusalem.
15 When the Arameans realized that they had been defeated by Israel, they consolidated their forces.[c] 16 Then Hadadezer sent for Arameans from[d] beyond the Euphrates River,[e] and they came to Helam. Shobach, the general in command of Hadadezer’s army, led them.[f]
17 When David was informed, he gathered all Israel, crossed the Jordan River,[g] and came to Helam. The Arameans deployed their forces against David and fought with him. 18 The Arameans fled before Israel. David killed 700 Aramean charioteers and 40,000 foot soldiers.[h] He also struck down Shobach, the general in command of the army, who died there. 19 When all the kings who were subject to Hadadezer[i] saw they were defeated by Israel, they made peace with Israel and became subjects of Israel.[j] The Arameans were no longer willing to help the Ammonites.
Workers for the Harvest
31 Meanwhile the disciples were urging him,[a] “Rabbi, eat something.”[b] 32 But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you know nothing about.” 33 So the disciples began to say[c] to one another, “No one brought him anything[d] to eat, did they?”[e] 34 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of the one who sent me[f] and to complete[g] his work.[h] 35 Don’t you say,[i] ‘There are four more months and then comes the harvest?’ I tell you, look up[j] and see that the fields are already white[k] for harvest! 36 The one who reaps receives pay[l] and gathers fruit for eternal life, so that the one who sows and the one who reaps can rejoice together. 37 For in this instance the saying is true,[m] ‘One sows and another reaps.’ 38 I sent you to reap what you did not work for; others have labored and you have entered into their labor.”
