Version
Psalm 9:9-20

[a]The Lord also will be a (A)stronghold for the oppressed,
A stronghold in times of trouble;
10 And [b]those who (B)know Your name will put their trust in You,
For You, O Lord, have not (C)forsaken those who seek You.

11 Sing praises to the Lord, who (D)dwells in Zion;
(E)Declare among the peoples His deeds.
12 For (F)He who [c]requires blood remembers them;
He does not forget (G)the cry of the afflicted.
13 Be gracious to me, O Lord;
See my affliction from those (H)who hate me,
You who (I)lift me up from the gates of death,
14 That I may tell of (J)all Your praises,
That in the gates of the daughter of Zion
I may (K)rejoice in Your [d]salvation.
15 The nations have sunk down (L)in the pit which they have made;
In the (M)net which they hid, their own foot has been caught.
16 The Lord has (N)made Himself known;
He has (O)executed judgment.
In the work of his own hands the wicked is snared. [e]Higgaion [f]Selah.

17 The wicked will [g](P)return to [h]Sheol,
Even all the nations who (Q)forget God.
18 For the (R)needy will not always be forgotten,
Nor the (S)hope of the afflicted perish forever.
19 (T)Arise, O Lord, do not let man prevail;
Let the nations be (U)judged before You.
20 Put them (V)in fear, O Lord;
Let the nations know that they are (W)but men. Selah.

1 Samuel 16:14-23

14 (A)Now the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and (B)an evil spirit from the Lord terrorized him. 15 Saul’s servants then said to him, “Behold now, an evil spirit from God is terrorizing you. 16 Let our lord now command your servants who are before you. Let them seek a man who is a skillful player on the harp; and it shall come about when the evil spirit from God is on you, that (C)he shall play the harp with his hand, and you will be well.” 17 So Saul said to his servants, “Provide for me now a man who can play well and bring him to me.” 18 Then one of the young men said, “Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite who is a skillful musician, (D)a mighty man of valor, a warrior, one prudent in speech, and a handsome man; and (E)the Lord is with him.” 19 So Saul sent messengers to Jesse and said, “Send me your son David who is with the flock.” 20 Jesse (F)took a donkey loaded with bread and a jug of wine and a young goat, and sent them to Saul by David his son. 21 Then David came to Saul and [a](G)attended him; and [b]Saul loved him greatly, and he became his armor bearer. 22 Saul sent to Jesse, saying, “Let David now stand before me, for he has found favor in my sight.” 23 So it came about whenever (H)the evil spirit from God came to Saul, David would take the harp and play it with his hand; and Saul would be refreshed and be well, and the evil spirit would depart from him.

Acts 20:1-16

Paul in Macedonia and Greece

20 After the uproar had ceased, Paul sent for (A)the disciples, and when he had exhorted them and taken his leave of them, he left (B)to go to (C)Macedonia. When he had gone through those districts and had given them much exhortation, he came to Greece. And there he spent three months, and when (D)a plot was formed against him by the Jews as he was about to set sail for (E)Syria, he decided to return through (F)Macedonia. And [a]he was accompanied by Sopater of (G)Berea, the son of Pyrrhus, and by (H)Aristarchus and Secundus of the (I)Thessalonians, and (J)Gaius of (K)Derbe, and (L)Timothy, and (M)Tychicus and (N)Trophimus of [b](O)Asia. But these had gone on ahead and were waiting for (P)us at (Q)Troas. (R)We sailed from (S)Philippi after (T)the days of Unleavened Bread, and came to them at (U)Troas within five days; and there we stayed seven days.

On (V)the first day of the week, when (W)we were gathered together to (X)break bread, Paul began talking to them, intending to leave the next day, and he prolonged his [c]message until midnight. There were many (Y)lamps in the (Z)upper room where we were gathered together. And there was a young man named [d]Eutychus sitting [e]on the window sill, sinking into a deep sleep; and as Paul kept on talking, he was overcome by sleep and fell down from the third floor and was picked up dead. 10 But Paul went down and (AA)fell upon him, and after embracing him, he (AB)said, “[f]Do not be troubled, for his life is in him.” 11 When he had gone back up and had (AC)broken the bread and [g]eaten, he talked with them a long while until daybreak, and then left. 12 They took away the boy alive, and were [h]greatly comforted.

Troas to Miletus

13 But (AD)we, going ahead to the ship, set sail for Assos, intending from there to take Paul on board; for so he had arranged it, intending himself to go [i]by land. 14 And when he met us at Assos, we took him on board and came to Mitylene. 15 Sailing from there, we arrived the following day opposite Chios; and the next day we crossed over to Samos; and the day following we came to (AE)Miletus. 16 For Paul had decided to sail past (AF)Ephesus so that he would not have to spend time in [j](AG)Asia; for he was hurrying (AH)to be in Jerusalem, if possible, (AI)on the day of Pentecost.
