Moses’s Death
34 Then Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah,(A) which faces Jericho, and the Lord showed him all the land: Gilead as far as Dan, 2 all of Naphtali, the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of Judah as far as the Mediterranean[a] Sea, 3 the Negev, and the plain in the Valley of Jericho, the City of Palms, as far as Zoar. 4 The Lord then said to him, “This is the land I promised Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’(B) I have let you see it with your own eyes, but you will not cross into it.”
5 So Moses the servant of the Lord(C) died there in the land of Moab, according to the Lord’s word. 6 He buried him[b] in the valley(D) in the land of Moab facing Beth-peor, and no one to this day knows where his grave is.(E) 7 Moses was one hundred twenty years old when he died; his eyes were not weak, and his vitality had not left him.
4 But I have told you these things so that when their time[a] comes you will remember(A) I told them to you. I didn’t tell you these things from the beginning, because I was with you. 5 But now I am going away(B) to him who sent me, and not one of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’(C) 6 Yet, because I have spoken these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. 7 Nevertheless, I am telling you the truth.(D) It is for your benefit that I go away, because if I don’t go away the Counselor will not come to you. If I go, I will send him to you.(E) 8 When he comes, he will convict the world about sin, righteousness, and judgment: 9 About sin, because they do not believe in me; 10 about righteousness, because I am going to the Father(F) and you will no longer see me; 11 and about judgment,(G) because the ruler of this world(H) has been judged.(I)
