Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
God’s Shining-Greatness
8 O Lord, our Lord, how great is Your name in all the earth. You have set Your shining-greatness above the heavens. 2 Out of the mouth of children and babies, You have built up strength because of those who hate You, and to quiet those who fight against You.
3 When I look up and think about Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have set in their place, 4 what is man, that You think of him, the son of man that You care for him? 5 You made him a little less than the angels and gave him a crown of greatness and honor. 6 You made him to rule over the works of Your hands. You put all things under his feet: 7 All sheep and cattle, all the wild animals, 8 the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, and all that pass through the sea. 9 O Lord, our Lord, how great is Your name in all the earth!
11 One day after Moses had grown up, he went out to his brothers and saw how hard they worked. He saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his people, 12 so he looked this way and that way. He did not see anyone, so he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand. 13 The next day he went out and saw two Hebrews fighting. He said to the man who did the wrong, “Why are you hitting your neighbor?” 14 But the man said, “Who made you a ruler and a judge among us? Do you plan to kill me like you killed the Egyptian?” Then Moses was afraid. He thought, “For sure the thing I have done is known.”
15 When Pharaoh heard what had happened, he tried to kill Moses. But Moses ran away from Pharaoh and stayed in the land of Midian. He sat down there by a well.
33 God’s riches are so great! The things He knows and His wisdom are so deep! No one can understand His thoughts. No one can understand His ways. 34 The Holy Writings say, “Who knows the mind of the Lord? Who is able to tell Him what to do?” (A) 35 “Who has given first to God, that God should pay him back?” (B) 36 Everything comes from Him. His power keeps all things together. All things are made for Him. May He be honored forever. Let it be so.
