Version
Psalm 17:1-7

The Prayer of an Innocent Person[a]

17 Listen, O Lord, to my plea for justice;
    pay attention to my cry for help!
    Listen to my honest prayer.
You will judge in my favor,
    because you know what is right.

You know my heart.
    You have come to me at night;
    you have examined me completely
    and found no evil desire in me.
I speak no evil,
as others do;
    I have obeyed your command
    and have not followed paths of violence.
I have always walked in your way
    and have never strayed from it.

I pray to you, O God, because you answer me;
    so turn to me and listen to my words.
Reveal your wonderful love and save me;
    at your side I am safe from my enemies.

Psalm 17:15

15 But I will see you, because I have done no wrong;
    and when I awake, your presence will fill me with joy.

Isaiah 41:8-10

(A)“But you, Israel my servant,
    you are the people that I have chosen,
    the descendants of Abraham, my friend.
I brought you from the ends of the earth;
    I called you from its farthest corners
    and said to you, ‘You are my servant.’
I did not reject you, but chose you.
10 Do not be afraid—I am with you!
    I am your God—let nothing terrify you!
I will make you strong and help you;
    I will protect you and save you.

Romans 9:6-13

I am not saying that the promise of God has failed; for not all the people of Israel are the people of God. (A)Nor are all of Abraham's descendants the children of God. God said to Abraham, “It is through Isaac that you will have the descendants I promised you.” This means that the children born in the usual way[a] are not the children of God; instead, the children born as a result of God's promise are regarded as the true descendants. (B)For God's promise was made in these words: “At the right time[b] I will come back, and Sarah will have a son.”

10 And this is not all. For Rebecca's two sons had the same father, our ancestor Isaac. 11-12 (C)But in order that the choice of one son might be completely the result of God's own purpose, God said to her, “The older will serve the younger.” He said this before they were born, before they had done anything either good or bad; so God's choice was based on his call, and not on anything they had done. 13 (D)As the scripture says, “I loved Jacob, but I hated Esau.”
