Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
Psalm 100
Be Thankful
A psalm of thanksgiving.
1 Shout triumphantly to the Lord, all the earth.(A)
2 Serve the Lord with gladness;
come before Him with joyful songs.(B)
3 Acknowledge that Yahweh is God.
He made us, and we are His[a](C) —
His people, the sheep of His pasture.(D)
4 Enter His gates with thanksgiving(E)
and His courts with praise.
Give thanks to Him and praise His name.(F)
5 For Yahweh is good, and His love is eternal;
His faithfulness endures through all generations.
The Lord and His Sheep
23 “Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of My pasture!”(A) This is the Lord’s declaration. 2 “Therefore, this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says about the shepherds who shepherd My people: You have scattered My flock, banished them, and have not attended to them.(B) I will attend to you because of your evil acts”—this is the Lord’s declaration. 3 “I will gather the remnant of My flock from all the lands where I have banished them, and I will return them to their grazing land. They will become fruitful and numerous.(C) 4 I will raise up shepherds over them who will shepherd them.(D) They will no longer be afraid or dismayed, nor will any be missing.” This is the Lord’s declaration.
The Righteous Branch of David
5 “The days are coming”(E)—this is the Lord’s declaration—
“when I will raise up a Righteous Branch of David.(F)
He will reign wisely as king
and administer justice and righteousness in the land.(G)
6 In His days Judah will be saved,
and Israel will dwell securely.(H)
This is what He will be named:
Yahweh Our Righteousness.(I)
7 “The days are coming”—the Lord’s declaration—“when it will no longer be said, ‘As the Lord lives who brought the Israelites from the land of Egypt,’(J) 8 but, ‘As the Lord lives, who brought and led the descendants of the house of Israel from the land of the north and from all the other countries where I[a] had banished them.’ They will dwell once more in their own land.”(K)
The Third Prediction of His Death
17 While going up to Jerusalem,(A) Jesus took the 12 disciples aside privately and said to them on the way: 18 “Listen! We are going up to Jerusalem. The Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn Him to death.(B) 19 Then they will hand Him over to the Gentiles(C) to be mocked, flogged,[a] and crucified, and He will be resurrected[b] on the third day.”
Suffering and Service
20 Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons approached Him with her sons.(D) She knelt down to ask Him for something.(E) 21 “What do you want?” He asked her.
“Promise,”[c] she said to Him, “that these two sons of mine may sit, one on Your right and the other on Your left, in Your kingdom.”(F)
22 But Jesus answered, “You don’t know what you’re asking. Are you able to drink the cup[d] that I am about to drink?”[e](G)
“We are able,” they said to Him.
23 He told them, “You will indeed drink My cup.[f] But to sit at My right and left is not Mine to give; instead, it belongs to those for whom it has been prepared by My Father.”(H) 24 When the 10 disciples heard this, they became indignant with the two brothers. 25 But Jesus called them over and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles dominate them, and the men of high position exercise power over them. 26 It must not be like that among you. On the contrary, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,(I) 27 and whoever wants to be first among you must be your slave; 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve,(J) and to give His life—a ransom for many.”(K)
