Version
Psalm 31:9-16

Have pity on me, O Yahweh, because I am in distress.
My eyes, my soul, and my body waste away from grief.
10 My life is exhausted from sorrow,
    my years from groaning.
My strength staggers under the weight of my guilt,
        and my bones waste away.
11 I have become a disgrace because of all my opponents.
I have become someone dreaded by my friends,
        even by my neighbors.
Those who see me on the street run away from me.
12 I have faded from memory as if I were dead
and have become like a piece of broken pottery.
13 I have heard the whispering of many people—
    terror on every side—
while they made plans together against me.
They were plotting to take my life.

14 I trust you, O Yahweh.
I said, “You are my Elohim.”

15 My future is in your hands.
Rescue me from my enemies, from those who persecute me.
16 Smile on me.
    Save me with your mercy.

1 Samuel 16:11-13

11 Are these all the sons you have?”

“There’s still the youngest one,” Jesse answered. “He’s tending the sheep.”

Samuel told Jesse, “Send someone to get him. We won’t continue until he gets here.”

12 So Jesse sent for him. He had a healthy complexion, attractive eyes, and a handsome appearance. Yahweh said, “Go ahead, anoint him. He is the one.” 13 Samuel took the flask of olive oil and anointed David in the presence of his brothers. The Ruach Yahweh came over David and stayed with him from that day on. Then Samuel left for Ramah.

Philippians 1:1-11

Greeting

From Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Yeshua.

To God’s people in the city of Philippi and their bishops[a] and deacons[b]—to everyone who is united with Christ Yeshua.

Good will[c] and peace from God our Father and the Lord Yeshua Christ are yours!

Paul’s Prayer for the Philippians

I thank my God for all the memories I have of you. Every time I pray for all of you, I do it with joy. I can do this because of the partnership we’ve had with you in the Good News from the first day you believed until now. I’m convinced that God, who began this good work in you, will carry it through to completion on the day of Christ Yeshua. You have a special place in my heart. So it’s right for me to think this way about all of you. All of you are my partners. Together we share God’s favor,[d] whether I’m in prison or defending and confirming the truth of the Good News. God is my witness that, with all the compassion of Christ Yeshua, I long to see every one of you.

I pray that your love will keep on growing because of your knowledge and insight. 10 That way you will be able to determine what is best and be pure and blameless until the day of Christ. 11 Yeshua Christ will fill your lives with everything that God’s approval produces. Your lives will then bring glory and praise to God.
