Psalm 65

Psalm 65[a]

Thanksgiving for Divine Blessings

For the director.[b] A psalm of David. A song.

It is fitting to offer praise to you,[c]
    O God, in Zion.
To you our vows must be fulfilled,
    for you answer our prayers.
To you all flesh must come,[d]
    burdened by its sinful deeds.
Too heavy for us are our sins,
    and only you can blot them out.[e]
Blessed[f] is the one whom you choose
    and invite to dwell in your courts.
We will be filled with the good things of your house,
    of your holy temple.
Through your awesome deeds[g] of righteousness,
    you respond to us, O God, our Savior;
you are the hope of all the ends of the earth
    and of the far-off islands.
Clothed in your great power,
    you hold the mountains in place.[h]
You quiet the roaring of the seas,
    the turbulence of their waves,
    and the turmoil of the nations.[i]
Those who dwell at the ends of the earth
    are awestruck by your wonders.[j]
You call forth songs of joy
    from sunrise and sunset.
10 You care for the earth and water it,
    making it most fertile.
The streams of God[k] are filled with water
    to provide grain for its people.
Thus, you prepare the earth for growth:
11     you water its furrows
    and level its ridges;
you soften it with showers
    and bless its yield.[l]
12 You crown the year with your bounty,[m]
    and your tracks dispense fertility.
13 The pastures of the wilderness overflow,
    and the hills are covered with rejoicing.
14 The meadows are clothed with flocks,
    and the valleys are decked out with grain;
    in their joy they shout and sing together.[n]

Joel 2:1-11

Chapter 2

The Day of the Lord Is Coming[a]

Blow the trumpet in Zion;
    sound the alarm on my holy mountain.
Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble,
    for the day of the Lord is coming.
A day of darkness and gloom is near,
    a day of clouds and blackness.
Like the dawn spreading over the mountains,
    a vast and powerful army approaches.
Their like has never been seen,
    nor will it ever be seen again
    in the ages to come.
Their vanguard is a devouring fire,
    while behind them is a consuming flame.
Ahead of them the land is like the Garden of Eden,
    but behind them lies a desert waste,
    and from that army there is no escape.
They have the appearance of horses;
    like cavalry they charge.
They leap over the mountaintops
    with a deafening din like that of chariots,
like the crackling of a blazing fire
    devouring stubble,
like a mighty army
    drawn up for battle.
At the sight of them
    people shrink back in anguish,
    their faces without color.
Like warriors they press forward;
    like soldiers they scale the walls.
They advance, marching straight ahead,
    without swerving from their paths.
They do not jostle one another;
    each marches straight ahead.
They surge through defenses
    without breaking ranks.
They burst ahead to assault the city,
    leaping onto the walls.
They climb into the houses,
    entering like thieves through the windows.
10 As they move forward,
    the earth quakes before them
    and the heavens tremble.
The sun and the moon are darkened,
    and the stars withhold their light.
11 The Lord’s voice thunders
    at the head of his army.
Mighty and numerous are his forces,
    and they enforce his orders.
Great is the day of the Lord
    and exceedingly terrible;
    who can endure it?

2 Timothy 3:10-15

10 Remain Faithful in Persecution. As for you, however, you have followed my teaching, my way of life, my aims, my faith, my patience, my love, my perseverance, 11 my persecutions, my sufferings—the things that I faced in Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra and that I endured. Yet the Lord brought me out safely from all of them.[a]

12 Indeed, persecution will afflict all who want to lead a godly life in Christ Jesus, 13 while wicked people and impostors will grow ever worse, deceiving others and being themselves deceived. 14 But as for you, stand by what you have learned and firmly believed, because you know from whom you have learned it.[b]

15 Gain Wisdom from the Inspired Scriptures. Also remember that from the time you were a child you have known the sacred Scriptures. From these you can acquire the wisdom that will lead you to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
