Version
Psalm 58

Psalm 58

For the choir director; al tashcheth; a miktam by David.

Do you rulers really give fair verdicts?
Do you judge Adam’s descendants fairly?
No, you invent new crimes on earth,
    and your hands spread violence.

Even inside the womb wicked people are strangers to God.
From their birth liars go astray.
They have poisonous venom like snakes.
They are like a deaf cobra that shuts its ears
so that it cannot hear the voice of a snake charmer
or of anyone trained to cast spells.

O Elohim, knock the teeth out of their mouths.
Break the young lions’ teeth, O Yahweh.
Let them disappear like water that drains away.
When they aim their bows, let their arrows miss the target.[a]
Let them become like a snail that leaves behind a slimy trail
or like a stillborn child who never sees the sun.
Let God sweep them away
faster than a cooking pot is heated by burning twigs.[b]

10 Righteous people will rejoice when they see God take revenge.
They will wash their feet in the blood of wicked people.
11 Then people will say,
“Righteous people certainly have a reward.
There is an Elohim who judges on earth.”

Jeremiah 3:1-14

A saying:

If a man divorces his wife
and she leaves him and marries another man,
her first husband shouldn’t go back to her again.
The land would become thoroughly polluted.
“You have acted like a prostitute who has many lovers.
And now you want to come back to me!” declares Yahweh.

“Look at the bare hills, and see.
You have had sex with men in every place.
You sat by the roadside waiting for them like a nomad in the desert.
You have polluted the land with your prostitution and wickedness.
So the rain has been withheld, and there have been no spring showers.
Yet, you have the shameless look of a prostitute,
    and you refuse to blush.
But now you are calling to me.
You say, ‘Ab! You have been my companion
        ever since I was young.
He won’t hold a grudge forever.
            He won’t always be angry.’
You have said and done all the evil things that you could.”

The Lord Offers to Forgive the Ten Tribes of Israel Despite Their Idolatry

When Josiah was king, Yahweh asked me, “Did you see what unfaithful Israel did? She went up every high mountain and under every large tree, and she acted like a prostitute there. I thought that after she had done all this that she would come back to me. But she didn’t come back, and her treacherous sister Judah saw her. Judah saw that I sent unfaithful Israel away because of her adultery and that I gave Israel her divorce papers. But treacherous Judah, her sister, wasn’t afraid. She also acted like a prostitute. Because she wasn’t concerned about acting like a prostitute, she polluted the land and committed adultery with standing stones and wood pillars. 10 Even after all this, Israel’s treacherous sister Judah didn’t wholeheartedly come back to me. She was deceitful,” declares Yahweh.

11 Then Yahweh said to me, “Unfaithful Israel was less guilty than treacherous Judah. 12 Go and proclaim these things to the north:

“‘Come back, unfaithful Israel.
    It is Yahweh speaking.
I will no longer frown on you
            because I’m merciful,’ declares Yahweh.
‘I will no longer be angry with you.
13 Admit that you’ve done wrong!
You have rebelled against Yahweh your Elohim.
You have given yourself to strangers under every large tree.
You have not obeyed me,’ declares Yahweh.

14 “Come back, you rebellious people,” declares Yahweh. “I’m your husband. I will take you, one from every city and two from every family, and bring you to Zion.

Titus 1:1-9

Greeting

From Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Yeshua Christ. I was sent to lead God’s chosen people to faith and to the knowledge of the truth that leads to a godly life. My message is based on the confidence of eternal life. God, who never lies, promised this eternal life before the world began. God has revealed this in every era by spreading his word. I was entrusted with this word by the command of God our Savior.

To Titus, a genuine child in the faith we share.

Good will[a] and peace from God the Father and from Christ Yeshua our Savior are yours!

Guidelines for Leaders in the Church

I left you in Crete to do what still needed to be done—appointing spiritual leaders[b] in every city as I directed you. A spiritual leader must have a good reputation. He must have only one wife and have children who are believers. His children shouldn’t be known for having wild lifestyles or being rebellious. Because a bishop[c] is a supervisor appointed by God, he must have a good reputation. He must not be a stubborn or irritable person. He must not drink too much or be a violent person. He must not use shameful ways to make money. Instead, he must be hospitable, love what is good, use good judgment, be fair and moral, and have self-control. He must be devoted to the trustworthy message we teach. Then he can use these accurate teachings to encourage people and correct those who oppose the word.
