6 Unto the end, in verses, a psalm for David, for the octave.

² O Lord, rebuke me not in thy indignation, nor chastise me in thy wrath.

³ Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am weak: heal me, O Lord, for my bones are troubled.

⁴ And my soul is troubled exceedingly: but thou, O Lord, how long?

⁵ Turn to me, O Lord, and deliver my soul: O save me for thy mercy's sake.

⁶ For there is no one in death, that is mindful of thee: and who shall confess to thee in hell?

⁷ I have laboured in my groanings, every night I will wash my bed: I will water my couch with my tears.

⁸ My eye is troubled through indignation: I have grown old amongst all my enemies.

⁹ Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity: for the Lord hath heard the voice of my weeping.

¹⁰ The Lord hath heard my supplication: the Lord hath received my prayer.

¹¹ Let all my enemies be ashamed, and be very much troubled: let them be turned back, and be ashamed very speedily.

6 And the sons of the prophets said to Eliseus: Behold the place where we dwell with thee is too strait for us.

² Let us go as far as the Jordan and take out of the wood every man a piece of timber, that we may build us there a place to dwell in. And he said: Go.

³ And one of them said: But come thou also with thy servants. He answered: I will come.

⁴ So he went with them. And when they were come to the Jordan they cut down wood.

⁵ And it happened, as one was felling some timber, that the head of the axe fell into the water: and he cried out, and said: Alas, alas, alas, my lord, for this same was borrowed.

⁶ And the man of God said: Where did it fall? and he shewed him the place. Then he cut off a piece of wood, and cast it in thither: and the iron swam.

⁷ And he said: Take it up. And he put out his hand and took it.

¹³ Woe to thee, Corozain, woe to thee, Bethsaida. For if in Tyre and Sidon had been wrought the mighty works that have been wrought in you, they would have done penance long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.

¹⁴ But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgement, than for you.

¹⁵ And thou, Capharnaum, which art exalted unto heaven, thou shalt be thrust down to hell.

¹⁶ He that heareth you, heareth me; and he that despiseth you, despiseth me; and he that despiseth me, despiseth him that sent me.
