⁴ And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:

⁵ Before I formed thee in the bowels of thy mother, I knew thee: and before thou camest forth out of the womb, I sanctified thee, and made thee a prophet unto the nations.

⁶ And I said: Ah, ah, ah, Lord God: behold, I cannot speak, for I am a child.

⁷ And the Lord said to me: Say not: I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee: and whatsoever I shall command thee, thou shalt speak.

⁸ Be not afraid at their presence: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the Lord.

⁹ And the Lord put forth his hand, and touched my mouth: and the Lord said to me: Behold I have given my words in thy mouth:

¹⁰ Lo, I have set thee this day over the nations, and over the kingdoms, to root up, and pull down, and to waste, and to destroy, and to build, and to plant.

71 A psalm on Solomon.

² Give to the king thy judgment, O God: and to the king's son thy justice: To judge thy people with justice, and thy poor with judgment.

³ Let the mountains receive peace for the people: and the hills justice.

⁴ He shall judge the poor of the people, and he shall save the children of the poor: and he shall humble the oppressor.

⁵ And he shall continue with the sun, and before the moon, throughout all generations.

⁶ He shall come down like rain upon the fleece; and as showers falling gently upon the earth.

13 If I speak with the tongues of men, and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

² And if I should have prophecy and should know all mysteries, and all knowledge, and if I should have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

³ And if I should distribute all my goods to feed the poor, and if I should deliver my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

⁴ Charity is patient, is kind: charity envieth not, dealeth not perversely; is not puffed up;

⁵ Is not ambitious, seeketh not her own, is not provoked to anger, thinketh no evil;

⁶ Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth with the truth;

⁷ Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

⁸ Charity never falleth away: whether prophecies shall be made void, or tongues shall cease, or knowledge shall be destroyed.

⁹ For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.

¹⁰ But when that which is perfect is come, that which is in part shall be done away.

¹¹ When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child. But, when I became a man, I put away the things of a child.

¹² We see now through a glass in a dark manner; but then face to face. Now I know in part; but then I shall know even as I am known.

¹³ And now there remain faith, hope, and charity, these three: but the greatest of these is charity.

²¹ And he began to say to them: This day is fulfilled this scripture in your ears.

²² And all gave testimony to him: and they wondered at the words of grace that proceeded from his mouth, and they said: Is not this the son of Joseph?

²³ And he said to them: Doubtless you will say to me this similitude: Physician, heal thyself: as great things as we have heard done in Capharnaum, do also here in thy own country.

²⁴ And he said: Amen I say to you, that no prophet is accepted in his own country.

²⁵ In truth I say to you, there were many widows in the days of Elias in Israel, when heaven was shut up three years and six months, when there was a great famine throughout all the earth.

²⁶ And to none of them was Elias sent, but to Sarepta of Sidon, to a widow woman.

²⁷ And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of Eliseus the prophet: and none of them was cleansed but Naaman the Syrian.

²⁸ And all they in the synagogue, hearing these things, were filled with anger.

²⁹ And they rose up and thrust him out of the city; and they brought him to the brow of the hill, whereon their city was built, that they might cast him down headlong.

³⁰ But he passing through the midst of them, went his way.
