Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
4 Now the word of the Lord came to me saying,
5 “Before I (A)formed you in the womb I knew you,
And (B)before you were born I consecrated you;
I have (C)appointed you a prophet to the nations.”
6 Then (D)I said, “Alas, Lord [a]God!
Behold, I do not know how to speak,
Because (E)I am a youth.”
7 But the Lord said to me,
“Do not say, ‘I am a youth,’
(F)Because everywhere I send you, you shall go,
And (G)all that I command you, you shall speak.
8 “(H)Do not be afraid of them,
For (I)I am with you to deliver you,” declares the Lord.
9 Then the Lord stretched out His hand and (J)touched my mouth, and the Lord said to me,
Prayer of an Old Man for Deliverance.
71 (A)In You, O Lord, I have taken refuge;
Let me never be ashamed.
2 (B)In Your righteousness deliver me and rescue me;
(C)Incline Your ear to me and save me.
3 (D)Be to me a rock of (E)habitation to which I may continually come;
You have given (F)commandment to save me,
For You are (G)my [a]rock and my fortress.
4 (H)Rescue me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked,
Out of the [b]grasp of the wrongdoer and ruthless man,
5 For You are my (I)hope;
O Lord [c]God, You are my (J)confidence from my youth.
6 [d]By You I have been (K)sustained from my birth;
You are He who (L)took me from my mother’s womb;
My (M)praise is continually [e]of You.
The Excellence of Love
13 If I speak with the (A)tongues of men and of (B)angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a (C)clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of (D)prophecy, and know all (E)mysteries and all (F)knowledge; and if I have (G)all faith, so as to (H)remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 And if I (I)give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I (J)surrender my body [a]to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing.
4 Love (K)is patient, love is kind and (L)is not jealous; love does not brag and is not (M)arrogant, 5 does not act unbecomingly; it (N)does not seek its own, is not provoked, (O)does not take into account a wrong suffered, 6 (P)does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but (Q)rejoices with the truth; 7 [b](R)bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
8 Love never fails; but if there are gifts of [c](S)prophecy, they will be done away; if there are (T)tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be done away. 9 For we (U)know in part and we prophesy in part; 10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away. 11 When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I [d]became a man, I did away with childish things. 12 For now we (V)see in a mirror [e]dimly, but then (W)face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also (X)have been fully known. 13 But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the [f]greatest of these is (Y)love.
21 And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your [a]hearing.” 22 And all were [b]speaking well of Him, and wondering at the [c]gracious words which [d]were falling from His lips; and they were saying, “(A)Is this not Joseph’s son?” 23 And He said to them, “No doubt you will quote this proverb to Me, ‘Physician, heal yourself! Whatever we heard was done (B)at Capernaum, do here in (C)your hometown as well.’” 24 And He said, “Truly I say to you, (D)no prophet is welcome in his hometown. 25 But I say to you in truth, there were many widows in Israel (E)in the days of Elijah, when the sky was shut up for three years and six months, when a great famine came over all the land; 26 and yet Elijah was sent to none of them, but (F)only to [e]Zarephath, in the land of (G)Sidon, to a woman who was a widow. 27 And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, but (H)only Naaman the Syrian.” 28 And all the people in the synagogue were filled with rage as they heard these things; 29 and they got up and (I)drove Him out of the city, and led Him to the brow of the hill on which their city had been built, in order to throw Him down the cliff. 30 But (J)passing through their midst, He went His way.
