Psalm 11
Refuge in the Lord
For the choir director. Of David.
1 I have taken refuge in the Lord.(A)
How can you say to me,
“Escape to the mountains[a] like a bird!(B)
2 For look, the wicked string bows;
they put their arrows on bowstrings
to shoot from the shadows at the upright in heart.(C)
3 When the foundations are destroyed,
what can the righteous do?” (D)
4 The Lord is in his holy temple;(E)
the Lord—his throne is in heaven.(F)
His eyes watch;
his gaze[b] examines everyone.[c]
5 The Lord examines the righteous,
but he hates the wicked
and[d] those who love violence.(G)
6 Let him rain burning coals[e] and sulfur on the wicked;
let a scorching wind be the portion in their cup.(H)
7 For the Lord is righteous; he loves righteous deeds.
The upright will see his face.(I)
Solomon’s Workforce
13 Then King Solomon drafted forced laborers from all Israel;(A) the labor force numbered thirty thousand men. 14 He sent ten thousand to Lebanon each month in shifts; one month they were in Lebanon, two months they were at home. Adoniram was in charge of the forced labor. 15 Solomon had seventy thousand porters and eighty thousand stonecutters in the mountains,(B) 16 not including his thirty-three hundred[a] deputies(C) in charge of the work. They supervised the people doing the work. 17 The king commanded them to quarry large, costly stones to lay the foundation of the temple with dressed stones.(D) 18 So Solomon’s builders and Hiram’s builders,(E) along with the Gebalites,(F) quarried the stone and prepared the timber and stone for the temple’s construction.

Wives and Husbands
22 Wives,(B) submit[a](C) to your husbands(D) as to the Lord, 23 because the husband is the head of the wife(E) as Christ is the head(F) of the church. He is the Savior of the body.(G) 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives are to submit to their husbands in everything. 25 Husbands, love your wives,(H) just as Christ loved(I) the church and gave himself(J) for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing[b] her with the washing of water by the word. 27 He did this to present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or anything like that, but holy and blameless.(K) 28 In the same way, husbands are to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hates his own flesh but provides and cares for it, just as Christ does for the church, 30 since we are members of his body.[c] 31 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife,(L) and the two will become one flesh.[d](M) 32 This mystery(N) is profound, but I am talking about Christ and the church. 33 To sum up, each one of you is to love his wife as himself, and the wife is to respect her husband.
Children and Parents
6 Children, obey(O) your parents in the Lord, because this is right. 2 Honor your father and mother, which is the first commandment with a promise, 3 so that it may go well with you and that you may have a long life in the land.[e][f](P) 4 Fathers, don’t stir up anger(Q) in your children, but bring them up in the training(R) and instruction of the Lord.
Slaves and Masters
5 Slaves, obey your human[g] masters(S) with fear and trembling,(T) in the sincerity(U) of your heart, as you would Christ. 6 Don’t work only while being watched, as people-pleasers, but as slaves of Christ, doing God’s will(V) from your heart. 7 Serve with a good attitude, as to the Lord and not to people,(W) 8 knowing that whatever good each one does, slave or free, he will receive this back from the Lord. 9 And masters, treat your slaves the same way, without threatening(X) them, because you know that both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism(Y) with him.(Z)
