Psalm 84

Psalm 84

How Loved Is Your Dwelling Place

Heading

For the choir director. According to gittith.[a] By the Sons of Korah.[b]
A psalm.

How Loved Is Your Dwelling Place

How I love your dwelling place, O Lord of Armies.
My soul grows weak and even wastes away,
as I long for the courtyards of the Lord.
My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.
Even the sparrow has found a home,
and the swallow has found a nest for herself,
where she may place her young near your altars,
O Lord of Armies, my King and my God.

The Blessings of Being There

How blessed are those who live in your house. Interlude
They are always praising you.
How blessed is everyone whose strength is found in you.
The highways to Jerusalem[c] are in their hearts.
As they pass through the Valley of Baca,[d]
    it becomes full of springs.[e]
The autumn rain also covers it with pools.[f]
They go from strength to strength.
Each one will appear before God in Zion.

Prayer

O Lord, God of Armies, hear my prayer. Interlude
Give ear, O God of Jacob.
Look upon our Shield, O God.
Look with favor on the face of your Anointed One.[g]

The Blessings of Being There

10 Yes, one day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere.
I would rather wait at the doorway of the house of my God
than dwell in the tents of the wicked.
11 For the Lord is a sun and shield.
God gives grace and glory.
The Lord does not withhold any good thing
from those who walk with integrity.
12 O Lord of Armies, how blessed is everyone who trusts in you.

1 Kings 4:29-34

29 God gave Solomon wisdom and very great understanding and breadth of knowledge[a] like the sand on the seashore. 30 Solomon’s wisdom was greater than all the wisdom of the men of the East and greater than all the wisdom of Egypt. 31 He was wiser than any man, wiser than Ethan the Ezrahite, wiser than Heman, Kalkol, or Darda, the sons of Mahol. His name was known in all the surrounding nations. 32 He spoke three thousand proverbs, and his songs numbered one thousand and five. 33 He spoke about trees, from the cedars of Lebanon to the hyssop that grows out of the wall. He also spoke about animals, birds, reptiles and other crawling things, and fish. 34 From all the peoples and from all the kings of the earth who heard about Solomon’s wisdom, people came to listen to his wisdom.

Romans 13:11-14

The End of the World Is Approaching

11 And do this since you understand the present time. It is already the hour for you to wake up from sleep, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. 12 The night is almost over, and the day is drawing near. So let us put away the deeds of darkness and put on the weapons of light. 13 Let us walk decently as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual sin and wild living, not in strife and jealousy. 14 Instead, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not give any thought to satisfying the desires of your sinful flesh.
