Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
111 I will praise the LORD with my whole heart in the assembly and the congregation of the Just.
2 The works of the LORD are great and are sought out by all those who love them.
3 His work is beautiful and glorious; and His righteousness endures forever.
4 He has made His wonderful works to be held in remembrance. The LORD is merciful and full of compassion.
5 He has given a portion to those who fear Him. He will be ever-mindful of His Covenant.
6 He has shown the power of His works to His people, in giving to them the heritage of the heathen.
7 The works of His hands are truth and judgment. All His statutes are true.
8 They are established forever and ever and are done in truth and equity.
9 He sent redemption to His people. He has commanded His Covenant forever. Holy and fearful is His Name.
10 The beginning of wisdom is the fear of the LORD. All those who observe them have good understanding. His praise endures forever. Praise the LORD
2 Then the days of David drew near, that he should die. And he charged Solomon, his son, saying,
2 “I go the way of all the Earth. Be strong, therefore, and show yourself to be a man,
3 “and keep the charge of the LORD your God, to walk in His ways, and keep His Statutes and His Commandments and His Judgments and His Testimonies, as it is written in the Law of Moses, so that you may prosper in all that you do, and in everything to which you turn,
4 “so that the LORD may confirm His Word which He spoke to me, saying, ‘If your sons guard their way, so that they walk before Me in truth, with all their hearts and with all their souls, you shall not (said He) lack one of yours upon the throne of Israel.’
5 “You also know what Joab, the son of Zeruiah, did to me, and what he did to the two captains to the armies of Israel, to Abner the son of Ner and to Amasa the son of Jether, whom he killed and shed blood of battle in peace. And he put the blood of war upon his girdle that was around his loins, and in his shoes that were on his feet.
6 “Do, therefore, according to your wisdom, and do not let his gray head go down to the grave in peace.
7 “But show kindness to the sons of Barzillai the Gileadite. And let them be among those who eat at your table. For so they came to me when I fled from Absalom, your brother.
8 “And behold, with you is Shimei, the son of Gera, the son of Benjamin of Bahurim, who cursed me with a horrible curse on the day when I went to Mahanaim. But he came down to meet me at Jordan and I swore to him by the LORD, saying, ‘I will not kill you with the sword.’
9 “But you shall not count him innocent. For you are a wise man, and know what you ought to do to him. Therefore, you shall cause his gray head to go down to the grave with blood.”
10 So David slept with his fathers and was buried in the city of David.
11 And the days which David reigned upon Israel were forty years. For seven years he reigned in Hebron and for thirty-three years he reigned in Jerusalem.
7 There came a woman of Samaria to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me drink.”
8 For His disciples had gone into the city to buy food.
9 Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, “How is it that you, being a Jew, ask me for drink, who is a woman of Samaria? For the Jews do not associate with the Samaritans.”
10 Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and Who it is Who says to you, ‘Give me drink’, you would have asked of Him, and He would have given you water of life.”
11 The woman said to Him, “Sir, you have nothing to draw with, and the Well is deep. From where then have You the water of life?
12 Are You greater than our father, Jacob, who gave us the Well; and he himself drank thereof, and his sons, and his cattle?”
13 Jesus answered, and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water, shall thirst again.
14 “But whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him, shall never thirst. But the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water, springing up into everlasting life.”
15 The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me of that water, that I may never thirst, nor come here to draw again.”
16 Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come back.”
17 The woman answered, and said, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You have well said, ‘I have no husband.’
18 For you have had five husbands, and he whom you now have is not your husband. That you said truly.”
19 The woman said to Him, “Sir, I see that You are a Prophet.
20 “Our fathers worshiped on this mountain. And You say that Jerusalem is the place wherein it is necessary to worship.”
21 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe me. The hour comes when you shall neither on this mountain, nor at Jerusalem, worship the Father.
22 “You worship that which you do not know. We worship that which we know. For salvation is from the Jews.
23 “But the hour comes, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in Spirit and Truth. For the Father requires even such to worship Him.
24 “God is a Spirit. And those who worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and Truth.”
25 The woman said to Him, “I know well that Messiah shall come, Who is called Christ. When He has come, He will tell us all things.”
26 Jesus said to her, “I am He, Who speaks to you.”
